A 7 lb trigger, are they serious? wtfwtf I wouldn't accept a trigger that heavy on what is supposed to be a precision rifle. If that's what they are offering, they can keep it!.
That'd have been an improvement on my first Rem 700!!
Bought a PSS model in .223 a long time ago, with the original Walker designed trigger.
The factory setting was so high I kept looking to check that I'd taken the safety off - it had left the factory with a pull of 9lb-10lb!!
Such settings were to avoid potential litigation that a "hair trigger" had caused a rifle to go off too soon - as a batch of such court cases was doing the rounds at the time in the USA.
The "problem" with the original Walker trigger was a similar set of law suits, brought due to some Bubba that had fiddled with the trigger so much as to make it liable to go off on the bolt being closed.
The X Mark PRO was the "answer"!
Proof it it were ever needed that Big Green is now run by accountants & bean counters, and the engineers are overlooked as merely troublesome umpa-lumpas; and that the idiots at the top came up with an answer for a question they never understood...
The original Walker trigger on my PSS took me at most 15 minutes to adjust, then check to ensure it was safe. Been at approx 2.5lb for about 15 years and never been a problem...works very very well.
The XMP even before the "problem" was a POS, nowhere near as good a trigger as the Walker - just a typical solution to a non-problem dreamed up by the sort of folk that would be stuck for an answer if you said "Good Morning" to them.
I'd love to get an old Walker & drop it into my SPS Varmint so I could just bin the XMP in it.
THE RECALL
Yes, ALL the costs are being met by Remington in the USA.
BUT
I suggested to Riflecraft that, irrespective of that side of the equation, the owners of affected 700's just pop the two pins out, mail the trigger back & have a new trigger sent out.
Add up the back-forth TNT shipping & it'll be less expensive for Remington to supply all the affected 700 owners with Timney/Jewel/Rifle Basix or such after-market third party triggers...THAT would also be a better PR exercise, rather than the FUBAR situation as at present
WALKER TRIGGER
Anyone have one sitting in a drawer...good home available for one?!?!?!
