Gaz - if you took a RUAG 308 round along to any gunsmith and said "rebarrel my rifle so it will chamber this cartridge." I honestly can't see any gunsmith buggering it up - that's his job!

I have certain knowledge of a fair number of cockups (and have experienced one or two) that gunsmiths have made over the years, including failing to correctly re-barrel rifles with coned bolt faces which subsequently failed proof as a result, failing to crown a new barrel at all, stripping screws during routine work etc...There are a (small) number of gunsmiths who I will not lodge a rifle with under any circumstances.
