She may be stupid. Equally, she may just be a committed member of the animal rights fraternity, and they are in principle as entitled to their world view as we are to ours (and I recognise that using "we" and "ours" is implying a level of unity that may not exist). Either way, she has a view, and we need to counter it - in this case so as to make the recipient of her wrath (David Cameron & chums, and by implication HM Government) aware through his media monitors that the alternative view has some significant following and may be worth cultivating. That applies more generally. All the time we are registering counts on polls, telling MPs that they have got it wrong, explaining that we are by definition legitimate law-abiding citizens, engaged in an ancient and honourable sport at which our country happens to be World Champions, and so on, we are telling the political world that it may just be worth paying attention to us. As a national politician, rubbishing shooters gets you five seconds of positive press, but costs you all your swing votes and some of your support in 700 000 voters. As an editor, it gets you a headline, but costs you 700 000 potential customers.

Or so I hope.

Four cups of tea in bed this morning - how much is a man expected to do (on his first day off in seven)?
