I'd vouch for that. Even with expensive custom rifles, I've never seen anything outshoot an AI. In hindsight I should have bought one as my first rifle, they're worth every penny IMO. 3 reasonably casual shots on Sunday went in to a hole slightly bigger than a single bullet hole, but certainly smaller than my little finger nail. :good:

How are you managing to get an AT in that calibre? I can't find anything that presents that as an option. Just looking around and they (AT stock) look nice in black. I think if I stay with .308 it makes sense to get an AT instead of an AX.

I'm starting to think maybe 300 winmag isn't really what I'm after. I didn't realise the recoil is about 2.5 times a .308 and factory ammo isn't cheap let alone match grade ammo.... Perhaps an AT308 with 26" barrel is the way to go after all.

Will the 6.5x55 fit a.308 bolt face?...you may have to look at .260 rem or similar

The 6,5x55 case head is is 12,2mm versus the .308 which is 12.01mm so it is going to be down to bolt face. As an example our bolt face is 12.05 for a snug fit, I have no idea what the AT bolt is so it would need to be checked. One downside is the AT will not feed the 6,5x55 from the magazine.

I'm going to buy an AT Ill have the factory 308 barrel for general plinking, will have a long barrel chambered in 308 for ftr and I'm thinking about having one made in 6mmslr to sling the 115 dtac.
I wouldn't bother with a 6.5x55 in a short action. It's a great calibre but it needs a long action in my opinion to use the nice long high bc bullets :)

So the 6,5x5x55 is not going to fit the standard bolt face regardless, I had a feeling this would be the case.

If you look at Tikka T3`s in 6.5x55 they use a long action with 308 in the short action.

It may be that the Tikka has the same bolt face for the 6,5x55 and .308 - I have never checked however I do have an M65A here in .308 which is a long action so I will check when I get a minute. The other thing to consider is you can open bolt face diameters at a push however this may have implications on the extractor and to a lesser degree the ejector if fitted.
