Re: A national body.... (not the same old thread)
One of the issues with adopting anyone else's legislation as a model is that it would have to comply with Directive 91/477/EC as amended by 2008/51/EC of the European Commission. Our current law is actually quite a good fit for the EC Directive; any new law would also have to be.

No, this isn't about adopting anyone else's legislation, it's about making ours fit for purpose. And that purpose should be a clear and concise law that safeguards the pursuit of lawful sport, whilst ensuring public safety, with minimal bureaucracy.
Look at what happened yesterday. The news reports a five year old has been shot with a legally held firearm. Ripples all amongst the forums with an underlying sense of foreboding. Anyone else utterly hacked off with that? I know I am...

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Hasn't this debate gone slightly off course? I thought that the original posting was about who actually administers the current legislation and a suggestion of a single national licensing authority but maybe I was wrong.

Valid points all, its a joke that because some twerp does something stupid we should all start wondering if this is it. As long as we are under that constant spiteful threat from the media, "police" and GCN nutters does it mater who does what?
Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!

That was half of it. Pushing for the current legislation to be streamlined and placed in one coherent act was the other half...
Anyway, it's your fault I came up with it! :55:

This is exactly what BSSC does.Sim G wrote:

All the major national organisations are BSSC members. The lobbying goes on at every opportunity; the BSSC Sec is a past master at the diplomatic process involved. Much of the graft gets done by BASC - they have an entire department with about four staff plus secretarial support for this kind of stuff; the NRA has about 10% of my time and a small chunk of time from the Chairman (who is a grossly overworked and completely unpaid volunteer) and the CE. I know NSRA contribute; I'm not familiar with the input from the BDS, CPSA and other organisations more remote from rifle shooting at targets, but I'm sure they have similar mentality to mine and my colleagues at BASC and NSRA.
