It is true and I subscribe to the view, never put anything digital if you don't want the whole world and its institutions to be able to see it, interpret it and use it against you at some point.

The antis use social media to peddle their message so you either take the fight to them there - or lose your guns. It's very simple.
Nobody 'listens' to letters any more - it's dead tech - the political battle is fought on social media (especially twitter) whether you like it or not. I've encouraged three people to take up shooting in the last month alone. I've never met them. That's the power of it.

How post modern, it only has to be that way if you want it so, as I have said if that is what communication is reduced to then the fight is lost already as the mental capacity required to use social media isn't sufficient to encompass the arguments.
Anyway the proof of the pudding will be in the outcome, social media our pro-gun message as much as you can and change the views that way. I wish you success as I fervently wish that in doing so you prove my view of people wrong.

They only have their way if you subscribe to such media, me I don't so they never touch me. To be honest if people have their opinions formed solely through such sh!te then as I have said earlier debate and reasoned argument is wasted on them. It is the mental apathy and intellectual laziness of human beings that makes arsebook and tw@tter so popular and that is the real problem we face, people revelling in simple black and white statements and opinion with no depth and reasoned thought behind them, no "why" or tangible reality underpinning their thinking just blind adoption of a mass and fashionable view, such is our post modern population reduced to.
Dromia much as I agree with you it is those very people with that shallow mentality that are swayed against your cause and so screw up our sport. Yes they ARE hard of thinking, shallow and in most cases ignorant of the truth BUT with their limited mindset a sweeping statement on farsebook and faceshitter is enough to convince them.
Why do you think the CIA etc ploughed so much money into it - because it WORKS! People like the shiny instant gratification that posting piccies of their breakfast or trip to the loo brings.
Proof: look at how the biggest con man alive got elected to POS of the USA. Social media played and still plays a BIG part in his reign. Hobnobbing with celebs etc is seen as clever and somehow befitting the worlds biggest political farce ever and the social media droogs and drones swallow it wholesale because being shallow is what they enjoy.

Just pointing out that never mind the antis if we as shooters of different disciplines can't even stand united.

Well, Christel, I can see how all this is going. It's a real shame that some people's heads are still firmly wedged in the sand.
Chuck has it right; the masses are easily swayed - in either direction - but it's the antis who are doing most of the swaying.
Enjoy your firearms, folks - you won't have them long now, I'll wager.

Shame you seem to take such pleasure in it.

I dont think SevenSixTwo takes pleasure in it. I think the valid point has been made that as bad as some may perceive it modern media outlets are where public opinion is formed and where most politicians (ever keen to jump on a bandwagon and be seen as being of the people) look to gauge the mood of the populous. If we want the sport in all its various forms to survive then we have to attract new blood to the sport and that means adapting and embracing new forms of communication as well as utilising the old forms. Unfortunately facebook and twitter are where a lot of the antis organise and spread their message. Ignoring that will not make it go away.

Makes me laugh... :cool2:
This argument about facebook, twitter etc. is taking place on an INTERNET FORUM!
Only one step away from hating facebook etc. is 'hating all of that evil internet thingy that's taking over the world'.
There's plenty of people in this world (and not just the oldies) who would condemn a forum just like this one for producing mindless braindead idiots who don't know how to communicate 'like we did before computers came along'.
As has previously been pointed out, arguing that 'my way is better than your way' is devisive and is the same train of thought that lost SLR's followed by handguns and eventually will result in all of us shouting bang while pointing a broomhandle down range.
FYI: I don't do the twitter thing, but I use facebook. I often post photos of myself (and even of my 11 year old daughter) shooting - pointing out how much fun it is while being a perfectly safe sport and I hope people whose groups I belong to see these pictures and maybe think about the shooting sports where they might not of before.
