A question for them that knows about these things to shoot from the magazine my cartridge overall length will be 2.940 using a 139grain bullet using either N140 or N160.
The Stoney point tells me the maximium overall length would be 3.066 if I single loaded the cartridges.
Am I going to see a huge difference at 2.940. Its un likely I will ever shoot it over 500 yards and its more likely to be 100 or 200 yards(if I am lucky.)

I will see what we can do Adam.

I have just noticed the barrel is free floated it looks like it may have been glass bedded. All I need now is some were to shoot it.
Looks like a cast boolit job on the 25yard indoor range Adam.
You got any suggestions for a suitable load.

Alpha, what bullet was loaded to get to 3.066" - It is short for a 6,5x55 Swede which is normally around the 3.150"

Any chance of making the pictures a bit bigger Dave, it is real chew on enlarging them so I can see them properly.
What's the maximum size you can post on the forum Adam.
Maximum size is 800x600 - how Adam posts his very large (and detailed :good: ) pictures is a mystery to me!

I just copy and paste the image link from my photo hosting site into the post, I use photobucket.

I don't like the forum upload facility.

More to the point how far in was it pushed ? How much case volume was taken up by the bullet ?

Sorry I don't know what you mean can you explain please.

The only 6.5x55 I have owned fired up to now has been a milsurp rifle. The last one I owned was a Carl Gustaf so the bullets I re loaded were either Kranks cheap as chips 139grain or cast boolits.

This rifles cartridge overall length was measured using one of the 139grain Henry Kranks sells. They are all I have.( I have quite a few cast boolits.) I will buy some decent bullets and measure it again.

A 308 / 7.62 x 51 magazine is about 71mm internally , a 6.5 x 55 round ( cartridge case with bullet loaded ) 139gr bullet is around 71mm .A 6.5 x 55 round won't fit a 308 mag. . A M55 Tikka is a short action typically for .243 / 308 and their derivative rounds . I am struggling to understand how a different mag would fit unless new bottom metal was fitted perhaps modified from an M65 , all very odd .I'd like to see some photos of the mag. and the bottom of the action . All the early Tikka M55 and M65s are superb rifles , my M65 super sporter is a long action but with a short mag in 308 , you appear to have the opposite , who knows ?
Enjoy your excellent rifle .
