You would think that all the shooting organisations, CPA, NSRA, MLAGB, HBSA as well as the usual suspects would be urging their members and their affiliated clubs members to contribute to the consultation.

I have heard nothing about the consultation except a mention in an NRA missive bemoaning the fact it was distraction from Bisley to be fair this probably came out before the "consultation" went live.

If anyone knows of any organisation trying to get its members to respond to the consultation then would they please post that here, it will be interesting to see the whole sectors response to this as it impacts on all legal gun owners not just .50 calibre and lever release owners.

.50 cal, like s1 shotguns, LBRs and Long Range Pistols are not regarded by the Home Office as firearms available to approved clubs. How did your club manage that? And yes, it would go also.

When there was the consultation on fees, if I remember correctly, the organisations, all of them, tried to dissuade their memberships from replying as individuals and wanted it "left up to them" to submit considerations on our behalf....

Yeah, right!

One can always live in hope that they learned from their folly then as we were well shafted over that issue.

Not sure, I never really thought about it. One things for sure, I'll now be having a couple of shots before it goes I've been baulking due to it being a tenner a shot but now I'm going to have a few I think.
The only thing I can see thats different with regards to the 50 at our club is that one of two named officers has to accompany you while shooting it and members cannot carry it to the range and back like any of the other club guns. Maybe an inurance thing?

How long have you had it? From what I recall the stuff about .50s not being covered under HO approval only came in within the last 5 years or so.

I've only been in the club a year and they have had it all the time I've been there.

Looks like there is a way round it Sim. From the FCSA-UK website:

Having obtained Home Office clarification on the 10,000ft/lb rule, we have commissioned a 50BMG club rifle that has NOT been designed to discharge a projectile that exceeds 10,000ft/lbs, in fact the rifle has been designed to generate around 9,500ft/lbs using factory ammunition, military surplus and home loads (within SAAMI specs). The Home Office has confirmed that this is within their rules, and within the terms of the club license, as such this rifle is available for members to use as of 2016.

I do know our club buys in the ammo for the .50 so someone is producing it commercially at that muzzle velocity. It is not hand loaded as I asked earlier in the year when I moaned about the cost of a shot
