Indeed, both mine and Gregs went to Mark. He told me that both would have to be re-barreled, his initial impression was the excessive amount of material removed from the throat to improve the feed issues had left far too much of of the case exposed allowing it to burst under pressure.

Would replacing the barrel not put you back at square one with a gun that does not reliably feed?

Also, how did Mark get involved to observe this? I am concerned that the gun was handed back to you in dangerous condition. Or was the broken gun handed back and you went to Mark to see if he could get it working?

Glad you have your gun sorted..and glad it went to a decent 'smith to get fixed. I'd be interested to know what the repair cost you, as I've wanted a unicorn for ages so knowing what I could be in for from the off would be useful :)

After several months mine was returned with several key parts missing, it went back to SGC (via Shooting Supplies) yet again and was eventually returned, all this has taken over a year and a half. Since Durham insisted I remove it from my FAC when it originally returned it went to Dromia who very kindly held it for me while a solution was sought. During that time I heard from Greg about his identical failure, we then contacted the UK Gun Traders Association, this took a couple of months to get a reply and eventually they got in touch with SGC who said "if it was factory ammo talk to the ammo manufacturer" but said nothing about Gregs rifle which was using reloads at the time.

At this point I got an email from Mark Bradley asking if I still had mine as Greg has given up with his and gave it away, it ended up with Mark. At this point I had two options, continue to try and get mine sorted on my own without another gun to show as supporting evidence or write it off to experience and move on. Mark offered to buy mine and I agreed, both Greg and I are now well out of pocket but at least we are rid of the things and both feel a lot safer, there is no way either of us would have trusted a repair by SGC or used the rifles ever again.

Excuse the pun, but he's shot himself in the foot. I'd like one, but I don't want to take this on if there's an issue... I guess most here feel the same.

I saw a guy shooting one at Melville on Sunday and stood well clear of him!

Should one (or both) of the Proof Houses be getting agitated about this? Firearms safety is their very raison d'etre...

No, that they 'failed catastrophically' in the first place...

Old news, things have moved on with the two failures as they now "Resurrected Unicorns" that have both been reproofed.
