Are all these failures with the new SGC manufactured recevers around the rear takedown lug ? his earlier rifles were build with a DPMS 9mm upper receiver and I have not heard of any of these failing.

The first ones were built with .223 uppers, hence the huge (relatively) ejection port - makes shooting them left handed particularly unpleasant

I stand corrected, was getting confused with my Bradders AR (which was a 9mm upper).

Further to that, when I was discussing my purchase with SGC, I was talking to them about reloads. They were happy to discuss some loads, but they pointed out to me that the warranty only covered factory ammo.

I know that SGC don't have a good reputation amongst some Shooting Forums. however I have to say that my dealings with them were fine. they were as helpful as they could be during and afterthe S5 issues and always seemed to have time to discuss my endless questions.

The thing is, home loads are a no no warranty wise.

Realistically, who's going to admit double-charging or continually running 'hot' loads in their guns? Factor that with the chance of an over-crimped bullet, case failure or maybe even using the wrong powder..
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but these weren't using a gas piston system. Any blowback system is gonna be a lot more ammo sensitive.

Have there been any failures on a factory only fed gun? If there is, that changes the game.

not really, until the failures are investigated by someone with the skill and equipment to assess the metallurgy and design aspects, no one knows what the cause of the problem is, you could feed a gun factory ammo all day long, what is to stop the manufacturer claiming reloads have been used ? likewise you could shoot reloads all day and then claim you only used factory ammo ? in this case there is no doubt that reloads were used, the question is, were they to blame?

I wholeheartedly agree and such action may well exonerate SGC and prevent any further criticism or internet whispers.

It appears that two of the guns that failed have been fixed!

Mark Bradley and Armalon have repaired them. Doesn't say they are for sale though.
