Sadly I do feel that Caroline has hit the nail on the head, regardless of how much we shout or campaign if a faceless MEP decides to go with the masses to keep their job then what chance do we have. Of course there is always the chance that our present people at the top decide that our current system is indeed adequate. Then again we have the Labourites and Scottish Nazi party who will happily also sell us down the road to pander to the Daily Fail readers.

Very true, and then you have to take in to consideration the amount of horse-trading that goes on behind the scenes. We could be sold out in the name of political expediency.

Let's not start getting all negative already folks. I'm not ready for the rubber glove treatment yet by a long shot!

Its the latter Yves - because pretty much EVERY firearm resembles a military firearm. All milsurp bolt actions for a start. All straightpull clones. And pretty much any full bore bolt action rifle with scope resembles a military sniper rifle ( to a lay person )

How to stir up a frenzy whilst ignoring the glaring issue, which is who and why some deemed it perfectly acceptable to shoot scores of people. Where and from whom the gun originated is neither here nor there.

In the late 80s, in Ulster, I examined and shot an S&W model 39, 9mm semi auto pistol that had been seized from Republican terrorists. That gun was marked "ISP". It was legally produced, legally purchased by an organisation who issued it to a member, who subsequently "lost track" of where the pistol went to, until it turned up in murderers hands 20 years later.

Those who know something of firearms history will know that the S&W M39 was the first semi automatic adopted by an American police force. ISP stands for "Illinois State Police", the gun was issued in 1968 to a uniform trooper who then became a detective who was further issued with a M36, snub nosed revolver. Who knows how that pistol turned up in the Province, but it did. Who do we blame? ISP? That particular trooper? Or the American government?

Who or from where it came matters not. It was found in the hands of a man who had the intention to murder. The gun was not the issue. Simple, end of story.

Ah Simon, if only our politicians had such honesty of logic then our world would be a far better place.

Remember we are in a post modern age where people believe the "truth" is what they are told rather than what they see and know.

Here's an idea: we hand in ALL our guns, immediately after criminals and police hand in theirs, and in that order!

After all, if no one had guns why would the police need them?
