Is this previously FUK supported position on the use of firearms for self defence now a stance you regret and would like to distance yourself from?

I'm disappointed at the stance of some on here.

If we are standing still then we are going backwards. If nothing is done to progress shooting, once all the TR shooters go to the big range in the sky then our numbers will dwindle.

Look at the areas where shooting is growing.

CSR - marmite Bradley has done a great job in growing this sport. This has had a knock on effect of growing the black gun market but again, sadly, not without infighting.
PSG/TS - James Harris has also done a great job in pushing this forward along with F4i. This has resulted in new products such as the BR99 etc etc coming to the UK.
Practical Pistol - by all accounts the match at Bisley was well received, I'll be competing as soon as I can.

Shooting needs to change and evolve. It boils my p*** when I read of people hiding their legal pass time, sneaking their guns into their car and not telling people that they are shooter. To shout down an organisation that is pushing for change using some of the language repeated on here is incredible. Just because you disagree with something there is absolutely no need for grown ups to resort to the tone used in this thread. As Adam says, if you don't like it, move on.

I for one will be behind any campaign to save what we have got or push for relaxation of the Act. Doesn't matter if it only applies to wildfowlers, TR shooters, clay shooters or those weird people that shoot long range pistols while sitting in modified wheelchairs. Social media is where real traction can be made these days.

Nothing above that can be argued with, as far as I'm concerned. Probably like most clubs, conversations come up regularly about reintroducing pistol shooting and even self loading CF. it surprised me when I came to realise how many people didn't want certain things, such as mini rifle or target shotgun going on in the club. It seemed as well that there was an awful lot of resistance to any sort of action to reintroduce disciplines. The reason for both attitudes was the same...

Some just don't want the sport looking at in any way, shape or form, especially by the authorities, who might then see something else they don't like or clamp down further on what still remains. I do understand the sentiment, but when I also looked at the people who were anti a "review", it was generally those that only shot one discipline, with little or no interest in anything else. their demographics were similar also...

Again we are missing the point, it is gun ownership that is the commonality 'tween us all. That is what needs championing, arguing for shooting sports is a non argument and the disciplines are a divisive way of packaging shooting.

Without gun ownership there will be no disciplines of any kind, to use a post modern phrase gun ownership is the "elephant in the room" when it come to promoting and developing shooting.
