Yep that's practical for you, and the better you get the less time you spend shooting! The nearest level 3 match to me is 2hrs each way and the furthest is around 9. I do 4-5 shotgun L3 shotgun matches per year and the same for mini-rifle I usually make videos of the higher level matches and when my friends see them they always want to give it a go but when I tell them there's also 7-8hrs worth of plate resetting/target patching and an average drive of 4hrs, it kinda puts them off!

Unfortunately you're not allowed to run competitions with them or even do some serious plinking. Only really supposed to 'test' fire them

Personally, my interest in firearms started with handguns and is still what interests me the most despite enjoying different forms of shooting. I love the challenge of shooting handguns compared to the almost boring accuracy of a good rifle. I would gladly swap any/all of my rifles for a nice classic S&W revolver (that isn't 2 foot long).

I like my 4(T) and K98 too much to swap all, and certainley not for a nasty revolver, but I'd happily swap my Uberti 1873 and the .22 semi-auto gallery stuff to have a 1911 pistol in my hands again.

I'm also a handgun guy at heart. It used to really bug me (the handgun situation here) but Iv'e pretty much gotten over the aesthetics of LBPs/LBRs now and mostly just enjoy and accept them for what they are - particularly the lighter models (K22 and PPQ really, and in terms of LBRs the Rhino) Lighter the better is the way to go with LBPs/Rs imo. They're my favourite things to shoot overall. Travelling out to NI when I can has also helped in making the situation here more tolerable. That said, yeah of course I wish things were better. And as long as it didn't negatively impact what we have now I'd be happy to jump through some extra hoops to gain access, sure.

I would be the opposite, whilst I have shot handguns before they were banned (completed my probationary membership, but changed jobs so didn't go on to get my FAC). I wouldn't give up anything I currently have to have handguns again. My interest is long range paper punching, although I do enjoy my underlever and 10/22.

I agree with Pete, or get something like this pistol which is part of our 7.3 collection.

7.3 is one of those things I’ve struggled with. I was a dyed in the wool handgunner. Rifles were a curiosity or a tool for me prior to 97. I have a 7.3 facility about an hour and a half away. A very good friend is a member. But no, I can’t reconcile the restriction, the expense, the inconvenience and frankly, the utter bollox that surrounds 7.3.

If you are certificated fit to own a firearm then you are fit. What it is or where it is kept is really academic. Fit is fit. Unfortunately our best chance of ever having even a partial revocation of the ban was missed with the 2012 Olympics.
