Hornady make bullets for the world market and are profit motivated.

They are not about to shoot themselves in the foot by talking down their product market posture.

We are up against the nanny state again and organisations like BASC need to do their bit...can we expect any real support from our NRA?

Any members thought about engaging NRA support?

:-P

I'll have to remember that one! A good description.

You're right though the NRA, BASC and all the other shooting organisations need to get on to this ASAP before some innocent person gets five years for illegal possession of "expanding" bullets or ammunition.

Would this problem be in scope for the Sportsman's Association?

I did contact the Sportsman's Association about this forum last week but so far no answer.

Maybe they are on holiday.

It could also be Hornady playing catch up with the likes of Berger.

http://www.bergerbullets.com/Informatio ... rticle.pdf

After recieving feedback from hunters using their VLD target bullets on deer sized game and getting extraordindary success. Berger branched out from pure target bullets and introduced VLD bullets for hunting. Apparenting their "normal" target bullets were very good (or bad!) on varmits. Visually there is no difference between a Berger Varmint, Target or Hunting bullet.

I know for a while on MidwayUK Berger VLD's were being shown as target bullets but suitable for medium game as well. This changed once the dedicated hunting bullets came available.

From MidwayUK

Berger's Target bullets are the perfect answer for those longer shots. The target bullet is available in Boat Tail and Flat Base. Compared to a flat base, the boat tail reduces drag. This allows boat tail bullets to achieve higher ballistic coefficiency so they will be less affected by wind conditions. Plus, boat tail bullets typically shoot flatter than flat base bullets. Target bullets were primarily designed for target shooting but they are also effective on larger varmints. This is not loaded ammunition.

and

The Hunting bullet line features Very Low Drag (VLD) match grade bullets have the highest possible ballistic coefficient designed for 300 yards or more. These bullets are less affected by wind and expand rapidly upon impact. VLD bullets feature a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2" to 3" before they begin to expand. They were designed to shed 40% to 85% of its weight for a large amount of internal damage, producing wound cavities approximately 13" to 15" in length. Please note that the bullet should be touching the rifling when loaded and won't work in most magazines. This is not loaded ammunition.

I spoke to my FEO this morning and asked him if he had heard of it, he told me it was news to him and asked me if I knew on what grounds the classification had been changed.

The blind leading the blind?

Maybe it's all just a rumour started so Dromia and Dodgyrog can get us all shooting cast boolits!
