scottish ranges have a big downer on slug too! But .308 WIN , 300MAG and 45/70 is OK!!!!!!!!!

You think that Steyr remained in business because of these contracts? All of three nations total militaries you mention don't even amount to 200000 personell. So selling 200K AUGs is the secret to their success? Piffle. Could it not be the hundreds of thousands a year of the SBS based sporting rifle?
On top of which, should the civvy market not be of interest to Steyr why on earth would they go to the massive trouble of a UK legal AUG and a straight pull variety?

I didn't say the civilian market isn't of interest to them, just that it doesn't make or break the profitability of selling to military and LE. If companies like Microtech and Robinson Arms can stay in business selling a few thousand rifles a year to the commercial market then Steyr can surely stay in business doing the same, plus their sniper rifles, PDWs, upgrades, spare parts etc.
