I have a small collection of very rare old spec deacs, that I am keeping, a HK tool room early MP5 supplied to Enfield prior to to licence production is one example, it has no serial number or proof marks and is one of only three know surviving examples of its type, one in Germany and the other in a private collection in San Diego.

Still piecing its early history together, this was bought by a Sec5 dealer in 1988 when the factory closed and deactivated. (It uses the typical HK date stamp as a serial number on the Proof House cert!)

I won't sell this piece, or have it welded solid, I would rather donate it to a museum if it ever comes to that.

It never made it to the pattern room collection (along with other very rare pieces) as its future was in some doubt at the time.

As the main EU ban thread has somewhat derailed I thought I'd create a new thread for an important (in my mind anyway) proposed amendment.

The latest amendment to the proposals no includes MAGAZINES in the list of 'essential components' which would mean you would need a 'good reason' to own/purchase/replace one (or several).

Please note; the plan is to apply this retrospectively (no 'grandfather clause') with a declaration turnaround of 1 year, after which presumably any unregistered magazines would attract the same penalty as being in possession of a full firearm

This sort of nonsense has been proposed before (Dunblane inquiry) and it's always been determined as being unworkable but here we are again aaarggh Just imagine if the proposal was implemented to the point that the factory where the magazine was made had to be contacted by you to get the serial number of your firearm stamped on it before it left the factory!!!

Well, I think we all saw this one coming, since they are now insisting that deactivated firearms have magazines welded in place, its no stretch that they would want to restrict magazines for live firearms too ...

Lets take a wild guess as to what hare brained ineffectual nonsense they will come up with next next, I vote for restrict muzzle energy, yep, that seems just about unworkable enough for these cretin's to try and enforce!

About as daft as licensing air guns. Thousands of people criminalised over night.

How would it work if you have say half a dozen mags you use in two or three different rifles?........also for example some of my AK and Dragunov mags are quite collectable and if they had to be stamped with additional serial numbers etc that would ruin them.It would also be hard to determine where some of them were made as they are produced in factories all over the place, not like some mags that are only produced in one factory for example.

Its a complete cluster f**k of an idea which has already been dismissed when its been brought up before. Vicky Ford and the rest of the committee, and MEPs need to be made aware of the problems it would cause. Please contact them ASAP

Off the top of my head issues (Please feel free to add more);

- Number of magazines already in circulation
- How would plastic magazines be permanently stamped
- Would the magazine factory need to know beforehand the serial number of the gun it would fit or would they get their own individual number? How would the numbering system work considering the number of producers and number of magazines being made?
- Collectable magazines worth ruined by stamping/historic interest harmed
- Massive admin/cost burden on firearms licensing departments (backlog for existing mags, magazines are disposable items especially for competition shooters and need to be frequently replaced)
- Magazines can be easily made outside of 'controlled' environments (i.e. 3D printing)

I thought you'd say that Tovarisch, if they had to be stamped they would be ruined.I have an Izhmash Bakelite mag that appears to have been issued to a Soviet Border Guard and it has had what would appear to be all the locations he (she?) was stationed in (all along the Kazakhstan border), along with a unit number and a start and finish date......if that had to be marked then all that history would also be ruined......to some it's just another AK mag but to me it's one with a story behind it which you don't get with the vast majority of mags.

Complete FUBAR system - there is NO reason whatsoever for anything to do with magazines...

AFAIK the Dutch already have a similar restriction in place on magazines.

Only found out as I told one of my customers that I'd mail him some L4 magazines. He almost had a heart attack as they'd need to be pre-approved & added to his licence. If I just sent them un-announced he'd risk criminal charges & loss of his licence!
