Hey just because old Maxim patented it under "silencer" that doesn't make it or AAC right. It doesn't silence the sound of the shot, it merely suppresses the sound of the shot down to acceptable levels that don't make your ears bleed after a while.
Hey I already told you what the vast majority of sportsmen and women over here call them. You want to continue with the dick waving you carry on, you have a nice day now
Blu wrote:Guys, we could do the cock waving think for as long as it takes. For every link you throw up showing "silencers" I could throw up a half dozen showing suppressors. I live here fella's, have done for a long time and you can bank on it when I tell you that very few folks here call them silencers. Now if you were to move to Hollywood well then that's a different matter, they have silencers everywhere.
Check your links, just as many have reference to silencers.
And as they say, your ATF form 4 is for a silencer, nothing at all to do with genitalia.
If you say silencer, suppressor or moderator most will know what you're talking about. Here in the UK moderator is the correct word on our paperwork. For you lot over the pond, if the ATF call it a silencer, that's what it is.
I am with you on this Breacher and reading this with disbelief, knowing Blu and his background I would say he was very well placed to comment, certainly more than some.
What is going on with this forum, people seem to be taking as much pleasure questioning and ripping into others as actively contributing and judging by the look on our forum administrators face this is an incredibly dim path to take.

Its an interesting slice of American culture.
Maxim comes up with the name Silencer back in the 1900's (and his patent is granted for that word) and one of the largest suppressor manufacturers in the USA follow suite, marketing their devices as such to the public.
Other manufactures then adopt the same marketing strategy to ride off the back of a larger existing promotion. Hence Silencer is born and adopted.
While Blu and I don't call it such and I would imagine neither do quite a lot of other US folk (times change), the name has stuck and therefore manufacturers are marketing either using the term Silencer singularly or both Silencers and Suppressor to cover all segmentation's within the market.
I imaging there will also be a good few folk who do still refer to them as Silencers as well though.
Operators use Suppressors when they're operating, operationally.
N00bs, Civvies, Walts and Keyboard Commandos user Silencers.
Brits use Moderators, in moderation.

Its a real shame that this behaviour is tolerated, it's the few that spoil it for the many.
Hmmmm... well, I've been hunting and shooting in the USA and in Canada for over 55 years, and I've never heard anyone use the word 'silencer' except in movies. Just sayin'..... :)
