Just a suggestion.
Send the dies to someone else on here to try them.

I'd certainly be happy to do it, my Lee has sized thousands of cases without a problem and as I posted before I have a couple of spare expanders if it should turn out to be faulty.

Phaedra,

To check the pin/ flash hole relationship, I reset the pin to its proper position, I.e. Flush with the top of the decapping collet. Then, instead of placing the case into the shell holder, I rested the case on top of the shell holder, guided it into the die and carefully pressed it with the ram in the normal way, until the pin poked through the flash hole. I then unscrewed the die complete with inserted case from the press to examine the flash hole.Everything lined up perfectly and I could see clearance around the pin within the flash hole. Having checked, I the reinserted the die/case into the press, clipped the shell holder back on and removed the case from the die.

Phaedra,

I'll check again re your point about the die being seated too low but I followed the instructions implicitly, so I would be surprised if it was, however, I am not infallible and may have made a mistake. I'll check and see, if no joy I would be grateful of your offer to try it at your place. I of course, will cover postage both ways.

All the best
Bob

Are you using a .308 Win Die?

No problem :good:

On mine the expander sits about 3mm above the top of the locking collar, same as shown on your photo of the die in the press.

I have 27 sets of Lee dies. Not one of the FL sizing die has the decapping/expander pin flush with the nut securing the pin, they all sit proud by varying degrees. With the pin too low, the case, if enough force is used, will either push the pin out of the top, or if the nut is holding the pin secure enough, and enough force used, you will drive the pin through the case head.

Take all the internal out of the lee die and size a case with only the die body to see what happens.

From the photos you've posted my first thought would have been that that was not a .308 die.

Thanks John,

If I take the decapping pin out of the die and resize without it, everything is fine.

I took Lauries advice this afternoon and put a liberal amount of RCBS lube in and around a case neck and resized an already sized and deprimed case. Even though the decapping pin had nothing to do the internal structure of the pin still caused the pin to be pushed up through its collet but at least it did not crush or telescope the case as it had done on my first 2 attempts.
