Aye they are usually damaged as people don't remove them properly.
It isn't taking any direct recoil pressure so not usually a problem, a little bit of wood glue usually fixes it.

The next one is already pencilled in and will be using a 10,2mm/.40 bullet in something interesting, I have designed the reamer and now need to get it ground and find a suitable shot out donor bolt action rifle however that is for next year.

I would not have the heart to chop a K31, it just seems wrong, equally I could not chop a perfectly serviceable No1 SMLE or No4 however I would happily look at something shot out and/or not original.

Is this a new sideline - making carbines in weird and wonderful calibres?

If so, I've got some ideas based on the 8x56 Hungarian...

Thank goodness there's at least one gentleman among phillistines.
I've long hangered after a K31 set up for long-range work, but wouldn't want to ruin a decent K31 in the process. My current K31 shoots so well that scoping it and mounting it in a decent stock would do the trick.
There's always
this.
Go away Grant - that thing is already horrible enough as it is, it belongs with the M44s and other nasty noisy fiery abominations. There again I suppose you do have a vested interest in oddities after all
