is it any different from bolt action?
I don't give a stuff about bolt action. If that's the way people want to roll then that's up to them. I'm referring specifically to the AR platform and 'military straight-pull platforms'. They weren't designed to be manually racked every single shot which can introduce more issues/hassles - and it breaks concentration and slows everything down. Not only the mechanics, I'm fed-up with my firing position/sight picture being wrecked every time I fire.

As an ex-military shuffler, I'm just finding it hard to get used to neutered guns I guess. :bad:

Roll on UKIP.

+1, can't agree more with you 7.62
Don't know if it is down to muscle memory (I shoot a semi-auto 5.56 in France and its little brother 22Lr CMMG in the UK) but I had a rotten time with the straight-pull AR. It negates all the rifle good ergonomics points. Simply hated it so much I intend to try shooting CRS with anything but straight-pull. Probably will go down the road of a 7,62x39 AIA. The results will probably be poorer but at least my mate DW58 can get a good laugh at me ;)

Roll on UKIP indeed, don't think they will give us Semi Autos back...but its a step along the way back to "semi" mate.

Well I see your point about SP's, but I guess it depends were your shooting interests lie, if, like me you are interested in Military firearm study and design, then L1's AK's or their ilk are the way to go...not perfect, but I always enjoy travelling through 70 odd years of British military history at the range, SMLE through to L1A1!

Things have improved, example, I have just received an old spec deac L1A1, ex Singapore Police Force, this was UK proofed...then deactivated back in 1988, after the ban, back then, that was it, no more L1A1 shooting !

Such a shame, as this 1971 dated Lithgow was virtually unfired..... aaarggh ****

Today we can own and shoot these iconic Firearms again (and others like the AK), thanks to a small dedicated group of hard working RFD's pushing the boundaries.

Straight pull perhaps, but I will take my victories where I can get them...even if they are small victories!

We'll see semi-auto before we see handguns (despite the fact that NI proves they're no danger to the public).

Imagine sending your SP off to get proper gas parts fitted and coming back all semi-auto. Moist with anticipation! ;)

Yes please! would it actually be possible to that, i imagine, the following would have to happen (just thinking through my AR here...):
-gas port in the barrel
-gas tube/ function piston depending on firearm type/ model
-Amends to the carrier group

Anything else anyone can think of?

depends on the type as you say, the different flavours of SP L1A1, Anglo, Buckland and Suffolk Rifles have been modified in different ways.

It might be easier and cheaper to start from scratch with a new rifle though, (depending on your L1A1 build), they can still be bought cheaply as surplus Semi Autos, lots still about.

The SP AR15's I have seen in the past appear to have standard carriers fitted, with the direct impingement gas exhaust vents.

I would have thought a standard, non piston Armalite would be the easiest of all to "re semi", if we were allowed them back on Sec1

I would love to have an AR15 A2 HBAR, very nice rifles!

I have the lmt 308mws striaght pull (l129A1 spec) I don't have any problems with extraction ! She is smooth as slik ! Even used 3o year old mixed rg with no problems this things seems to digest anything! I ve got the side charger bolted on and I can easly Fire 1 shot a second without breaking sight picture
Fired two mags fast as I could with no probs

The Ar-10 is better then ar-15 i can use it for close range work as well 1000 yards and all in a compact package

Ps semi auto rifles will never allowed back as the media calls them assault rifles ! The sheeple will swallow it up and s*** themselves think we will turn into america spite the fact the semi auto centre rifle is legal in all eu countries !

Me too.
I don't have any problems with extraction!
Me neither.

The problem isn't extraction - it's having to rack the damn things! Particularly in prone, it's a ball ache.

Considering Ryan killed his victims on average every 16 minutes (IIRC), the mind boggles as to why HMG thought a semi-auto ban would be necessary or even effective.
