I've got some good bore slugs when accidently using reloaded primer only rounds. I've then had to drive the bullet out back into the breech. Get a perfect impression of the barrel when using copper washed bullets.
ok, rather than a new thread, i'll change the direction on this (although i am still interested in other peoples views on powder and loading)
i was toying with the idea of putting a low power scope on this, but want something that would look of the era without breaking the bank. (read sub £250) or one that would just suit it really. even maybe with something like a susat maybe? although that said, i can only see airsoft susats for sale anywhere.
the other option i suppose is for a pistol scope, the kind that only have the straight tube with only one big end? not explaining that very well i fear :)
any suggestions?

Perhaps you could graft a repro Enfield No. 32 MK II or No. 32 MK I Sniper Scope onto it. Correct period and I dare say it may have been attempted in service.
i went with a weaver K4 in the end, with a nice mounts that to me don't look too modern. still needs sighting in properly but as i was testing ammo, i didn't see much point in setting it.
so, i have been using some 225gr lead TC and 200gr lead SWC's from dodgyrog. i still only have bullseye. but i am awaiting for some Winchester WST to arrive still :( i made up around 15 rnds of each grain count with crimp and without.
the grain count i started at was 3.8gr 225 TC. as the lyman manual i have started at 4gr for 225gr lead bullet.
i also tried;
4.1gr 225 TC
4.5gr
4.8gr
5.1gr
i also loaded some of the SWC's up, the lyman manual gave a start weight of 5gr, but i loaded these up
4.5gr 200 SWC
4.8gr
5.1gr
5.5gr
the 3.8gr 225 TC was the quietest round, but was still by no mean silent. there seemed to be no difference between crimp or no crimp. although i had no crono (too dark to use it) to see if the fps changed.
the SWC did not feed very well, although one mag was at fault with some bullets, and i think i may need to sit the 225 TC bullets in a tiny bit deeper as some did not feed quite right. so i think i will be mainly using the TC bullets for most usuage.
now, onto question time
anyone want to see said rifle?
how light can i load the 225gr TC lead bullets? as i assume there is a starting weight of powder for a reason.
am i using the right weight? or should i be looking to use less powder behind the lighter bullet to give me a quieter retort? (as i started with a heavier grain count on the lighter bullet anyway)

Your choice of weight of bullet and weight of powder all depends on best accuracy achieved , surely ?
To my way of thinking there's no point in having a gun that's not accurate , no matter how quite it is , its never going to be silent 100% .
Personally finding that combination of powder and bullet that performs best and shoots the smallest group size has to be achieved first . Not even a subsonic .22 round is silent .
So how accurate were the rounds you tried ?
i understand what you are saying, but my search isnt for the most accurate atm, i'm trying to see how quiet i can get it. when i have that, i will start to look for the most accurate round. and then i may look for somewhere in between the two at an even further date.
the actual accuracy i achieved last night isn't really a guage as i was using different weights and shooting at the target to ensure they were firing ok. in all i had about a 5" spread at 25 yrds, but as i say, i wasn't too worried about the accuracy at that point :)

With a 230gr LRN in the Armalon equivalent of your DeLisle, I went down to 2.5gr Bullseye without any problems. Use lead bullets, keep your chrono handy and check the bore if you try it.

There was still a moderated .22 level of noise.
thank you
