So they're planning on running it to the FAC, rather than SGC regime, brilliant(!) How many new prisons are they planning on building if this gets passed? kukkuk

Those statutory conditions are bonkers. If passed, an U18 could hold an FAC and an SGC, complete with shotguns and rifles, but would be legally barred from owning an airgun.

I see the Scots have also picked up the American habit of shoehorning unrelated bits of legislation into acts guaranteed to pass through legislatures as well. What's alcohol licensing got to do with airguns?

Well in the end it shows just how politically motivated the whole exercise was, despite a public consultation and a committee of interested parties the SNP....whoops sorry did I say that? The Scottish Government had made its mind up already on what they wanted to do and didn't pay blind bit of notice to what anybody else said.

A case in point, there are 372 references in the bill to "Air Weapon(s)" That is despite all the shooting organisations stating that they are "Air Pistol" or "Air Rifle" for sporting and pest control reasons not "weapons". If the SNP...oh sorry did I say that again! ...the Scottish Government had any interest in being conciliatory they could of at least dropped the whole "Weapon" title.

No they are having their way and everybody else be damned! The CND supporting, socialist (a bit of an oddity for a Nationalist party) members of the SNP despise shooting sports and those participating in them, they have written a bill that suits their views on guns and those who own them.

There is a chance that I might be moving up to Scotland soon for work, will be a real irritant having to apply for a "Air Weapon" grrrrr certificate for my 12ft/lb Weihrauch on top of having to look for a new rifle club.

One small note under 18's can apply for an "Air Weapon" grrrr, but only with parental permission. A detail I don't actually have much problem with in general.

Where did you see that? I've read it a couple of times and I'm still not sure which way they're going to run it. kukkuk

It's in the title: Air Weapons and Licensing Bill. It's not just alcohol licensing that the bill covers.

Either way they win - I don't want to give up my Air Rifle* but neither do I want to apply for a license.

* Although I am considering selling it for other reasons.

Changing tack slightly, the NO campaign should use this to demonstrate exactly what the SNP really are and what they think of the public and public opinion. Basically, the Numpties, could not care less and they will do whatever they want without any consideration of public opinion.

<rant>Bloody socialists, quite frankly, telling everyone what is best for them without thought or care for someone else's business. Can't stand Alex Salmond - he is a moronic toad and I hope he loses his independence bid and has to scurry back to the dark corner from whence he came. </rant>

You need a FAC for a air rifle in N Ireland. Looks like Scotland is going the same way.
