OOPS I think.

Re: Good load for my 7.62 AI
iv loaded up some 155 SMK ....palma (if it makes a difference) into some hornaday match brass, fiocchi primer and 48 grains of CFE 223 , im doing 600 yards on sunday at barton road so we shall see how they perform
i did try 44 and 46 grains of the CFE 223 all the rest the same and didnt really get anything to shout about so im hoping that extra bit of grunt will sort them out
iv also got 10 grains of trail boss behind a 200 grain smk so we shall see how quiet they are

Re: Good load for my 7.62 AI
The best load I found for my AW was 46gr N140 with a PPU cases, Federal 210M primers,155gr smk palma loaded to 2.870, in fact I still use this in my boys Winchester with good results but to squeeze a bit more out of it 48gr of RL15 unfortunately I never got to try that one in the AW

Never used Scenars myself but trust what Dave has to say - second post on this thread relating to Scenars in an AI. Given this post is about what works in AI's it seems relevant to pass on.rox wrote:Interesting - where is this reported?ColinR wrote:Scenars are reported as giving poor accuracy at longer ranges.

Re: Good load for my 7.62 AI
Dave were you using Scenars in something other than an AI when shooting with rox? This post gives the impression Scenars did not work well at long range in an AI, or am I mistaken? I am presuming it was the 168 Scenars that you had problem with and 155 Scenars were OK at 1000 yds.ovenpaa wrote:The 168 SMK and the 167/168 Scenar both worked very well at shorter distances in my AI, the latter with a modest charge of N140 being my preferred McQueen load. The 168 SMK does have an issue once pushed beyond 800 and I could never get satisfactory results with the Scenar either.
Favourite load for the AI has to be a stout charge of N140 behind the Lapua 170 Lockbase.
Re: Good load for my 7.62 AI
Colin, I would have been shooting the 155 Scenar in my Accuracy International. My choice of of the 167 Scenar for medium distance stuff, 155 Scenar for out to 1000/1100 and 170 Lockbase is because they work for me. Equally I have shot the 155 Scenar right out to 1200 although it is a bit hit and miss at 1200.
Re: Good load for my 7.62 AI
Dave, Thanks for clearing up my confusion. Much as I would expect from my own results from 168 SMK, 155 SMK and 170 LB. Like you I tend towards the 170 LB as an all round loading, but expensive and often difficult to obtain as I guess many are still going to fulfill military requirements.ovenpaa wrote:Colin, I would have been shooting the 155 Scenar in my Accuracy International.
