Lol - I think we're getting mixed up here - By original, I did mean a Winny 100+ years old, in which case it would be a crime to put a scope on it.

Thinking about it (having read your comments) I don't think you should put a scope on it if you're just enjoying shooting it at your club (I only put a scope on my Marlin to compete at the Phoenix)...

...if you still want to improve your accuracy there may be other options - What sort of sights do you currently have, and what point of aim are you taking?...trying to line up a black blade in a black 'V' sight against a black target is difficult enough, but more so if your eyes are going...

...there's loads of sight options available for lever action rifles - you can get front and rear sights with luminous dots on them, or try a rear peep-sight...or adjust your point of aim; for example if you're shooting at a standard round black target you can set the sights up (would need an adjustable rear sight) so that you're shooting into the white below the black (pistol style)...

...it might be worth (and fun) trying these options first, as it's obvious you really don't want a scope on it.

You shouldnt feel bad about putting a scope on a relatively new underlever.
Remember what they were built for,slotting deer in the woods at short range!

Maybe you are right I will play with it a bit more and try and tighten the groups up before deciding what's next.
I have a Williams aperture sight on it at present its adjustable for windage and elevation. The problem is the front sight is just a fuzzy line and it just blends in with the black. I might try setting it up for 6 o clock hold. Its annoying for me because before my right eye went t-ts up I used to be able to put them all in the black at 25 yards standing unsupported. Now I am lucky if I get one in the black.

I don't know I will have to give it a go and see. Part of the problem is the implant(lens) in my right eye is only for distance vision.
The sight in my right eye up close is poor all though I do have a pair off glasses that help.(Actually the eye is not that clever at distance either) Well I did have a pair except I put them down in my workshop and I have not been able to find them again. I also now have a pair of glasses that my optician has prescribed after talking to him about the shooting problem. I will try them out next week at the club and see if they make a difference.

I started wearing reading glasses a few months ago; it took me ages to work out my short range vision was going...was taking me forever to get through a book...but fortunately my long range vision is still OK for the time being...

...It played havoc with my TR shooting this year - I used to use a very small front and rear aperture, but just couldn't focus properly any more...I ended up with much larger apertures, and with the rear sight further away to compensate...

...I only shoot one .22 TR comp a year now - last year I shot a pretty good 10-bull target, but this year I couldn't see a bloody thing down the 2.7 forsight i'd used the year before...

I think my days with apertures are over. Most of the stuff I have acquired over the years have battle sights. Maybe I should just clear the lot out and buy scoped up stuff. We will see.
