Re: Reloading - Beginner getting worried
I also built my bench from two layers of 19,0mm MDF screwed to a heavy frame which is also attached to the floor and wall. I gave the MDF a few coats of a silk finish varnish and have a light rubber mat across a large part of the bench so I have a soft area to work on and can see parts easily. My presses are bolted to 40,0mm thick beech plates to spread the load, these in turn are screwed to the bench. I see no deflection when full length sizing and I feel this is very important. You cannot realistically go to heavy with a reloading bench.Alpha1 wrote:I use MDF for my work benches its denser than work top. Just get it cut to the size you want.
Re: Reloading - Beginner getting worried
I can do heavy, but I still have to retain some space in the garage for other stuff. I'm still working on the assumption that I'll be using kitchen worktop on a heavy wood frame (2x4 or similar) with heavy legs at the front. I should have enough worktop left over to bulk up the press area if I need to, but I'm not sure that I will.
Fingers crossed, I should be making a start on this at the weekend and, if I'm lucky, it will all be over by Christmas. Sorry, Sunday.

Kitchen work surface is OK however you really need to get some good support underneath it, I would say build it with a view to sitting two good sized adults on it.

IT'S ARRIVED!!!!!
After a long wait for stuff to get into Henry Krank's, my new Lee kit is sitting in the office waiting for me to take it home and set it up. I'm excited, because that means that tonight... I can fit out my man cave with man stuff!
Happy days.
Ovenpaa/Christel,
Have you got any SMK 2156's left out of that batch you posted about the other week? Also, I might need to talk to you about primers and powder.

User702 - Happy days, enjoy the reloading thing tongueout
Re: Reloading - Beginner getting worried
702,
This is what my old man rigged up at the back of our garage from work-top and 4 by 2 - there's vices for cleaning rifles, a Lee turret press at the end, and along the back (can't see it on the photo) more bench with an RCBS Rockchucka...
...it's a good set up, but as has been said, worktop on it's own isn't enough; and we had to seriously reinforce the bench around the single press to stop the bench 'flexing'.
Enjoy sorting and spending time in your 'man-cave'.....and don't listen to anyone else, a radio is essential tongueout

MDF is the way to go forget work tops, Work tops belong in a kitchen.
