Does that mean that non NRA members are banned from the competitions there now? How do foreign competitors get their SCC's?

My understanding is that you cannot book a range at Bisley unless you are a member or an affiliated club. You could shoot there without being a member but as a member of an affiliated club. Also you didn't have to be a member to enter the competitions either but a SCC would be necessary in both cases, don't know how they have got round that with foreign visitors.

I've heard this "can't shoot at Bisley unless you are an NRA member" a few times now and if its true then its another one of their changes that hasn't been communicated very well, still speaking to their membership isn't the NRA's strong suit. If it isn't true then the misinformation needs to be stopped.

I think you are right in the fact that one can shoot there if a member of an affiliated club however the club has to book the shoot and the club has to go, no just you.

Thats my undertsanding, so that alone means that you can shoot at Bisley without being an NRA member.

The Viking and I were members of a club (Pre SCC days) which was NRA affiliated but we personally were not NRA members, our Secretary booked a shoot for us twice and then said she would do it no more because if she was booking it then it was a club meet and everyone was entitled to go. This was not a problem for me but apparently was for her, because the club then announced we were not covered by out club insurance so we joined the NRA. This gave us insurance and access to Bisley when it suited us.

This is not Correct. Members of an affiliated club can shoot on club days/bookings (without being individual NRA members).
Club guests can shoot on officially sanctioned and notified guest days, subject to appropriate declarations etc.

Many people only shoot with their club(s) and therefore don't need to be individual members of the NRA. If you want to book targets yourself to shoot as an individual (or an ad hoc group - not an affiliated club) then individual membership is necessary.

Some comps do require NRA membership, and a temporary membership option is usually available for that purpose.

SCC's are required except when under 1 to 1 supervision (e.g. during probationary membership/courses, or guest days).

However as Ovenpaa and I have learnt in the past, if one is not a member of a "friendly" club that will book on one's behalf then individual membership is needed if one has the desire to shoot at Bisley.
If no membership then one has to ring the club and book through them, can take days...

I am frankly amazed at the unwillingness of some people and clubs within the shooting world.
It is not just the public we have against us sometimes.

Of the Many points/questions which have been raised on this thread, the main reason why i mentioned the NRA & BASC is that in my limited experience these seem to be the bigger two.

I am interested in the NRA due to the fact that I am within travelling distance to Bisley and can see me wanting to book a target for myself away from the club, I was under the impression that you had to be a member to do this.

Thanks for all your comments though, I have decided to apply for NRA and will see where things go
