Do any special forces in the world that have a choice on what rifle to use, choose the SA/80. ? Then again what would they know.

A very irritating assumption popular with Chairborne Commandos - that Special Forces choose their own weapons ... ... ... Where, when?
I've mentioned this to personal acquaintances with verified UKSF/CANSOR/DutchSF connections - they haven't come across this, they carry what they're told to.

From my recollection (and before I get called out as a chairborne commando, no I am not ex-forces, nor a Second World War veteran, but I do have a degree in military history!) The legend stems from some accounts of the early SAS in France in 1944, whether or not they got to choose their own kit officially I could never really tell, but a number of them obtained small arms from elsewhere, two of which spring to mind was a Beretta M38 and M1 Carbines. Again impossible to tell how widespread and without further reading whether or not it was officially sanctioned, but some certainly did take other rifles into combat.
Before anyone seems to think I'm giving an opinion an opinion on a weapons system I have not used, I am not, just merely giving some light as to where a certain assumption MAY have come from.
