Well when we're about to buy nuclear subs, more troops etc etc to combat terrorism as Cameron wittered on about what do you expecyt.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with terrorism or crime it has everything to do with disarming the private citizen - and that is NOT good.

Spot on, Chuck................if they're so concerned about terrorism, they should be concentrating on cutting off the isis psychopaths cash and weapons supplies.
Chucking bombs at them, with all the collateral slaughter that will result, isn't going to help. It'll just mean more recruits.
The oil is apparently being sold in Turkey, so no EU membership for them, and sanctions against any other state that's supporting them, covertly or otherwise, including those "special relationship" middle eastern countries...............
I think a lot of people are making a stack of money out of this misery, so it ain't going to end anytime soon................and pi**ing off Putin could significantly raise the stakes.

Pete (sorry, I seem to have wandered off topic..........)

If taking legally owned guns is so essential to countering terroism mwhy is our idiotic government embarking on plans that will take TEN YEARS to evolve...

This i9s all about disrming YOU and in line with the UN Global gun ban. Just watch how your toys will now be classed as weapons of ewar (just as Obama did the other day) to ensure they fall into the UN ban. Of course you can believe the politicians and their glib replies but your vote doesn't count so be prepared for confication with no compensation.

Won't happen - dream on. The legislation is there. What do a few thousand hacked of gun owners and related business people matter when the sheeple will "feel safer"!

EU to propose banning semi auto "weapons"

Just received

Dear Countryman

Thank you for writing to me about proposed EU changes to firearms
classifications. The events in Paris last month were horrific and it is
important that in the wake of these monstrous actions we pursue the guilty
and bring them to justice.

However, I believe it is important to resist the urge to overreact and
punish the law abiding through knee-jerk political reactions. I do not
believe that had the European Commission proposed measures to tighten gun
controls across the EU been in force that this would have had any effect on
what happened in Paris.

None of the weapons used there were legally held by licensed residents. They
were illegally acquired and illegally used. There are many law abiding
citizens who use firearms either professionally or recreationally. There are
others who collect decommissioned guns, or replicas thereof, perfectly
legitimately. I am a supporter of both groups.

The Commission's proposals will now have to go through the Council of
Ministers and the European Parliament and will no doubt be subject to change
and amendment. I will certainly be considering any attempt to tighten gun
controls very carefully before voting on them in the European Parliament
next year.

Yours sincerely,

Ashley Fox MEP

What we need is for some enterprising gun spanner monkey to realise there is a opportunity when dealing with the modular nature of modern semi automatic firearms.
