Neither do I and it wasn't my intention to agree to or accept any proposed ban/restrictions on knives or acid. I was stating I "fully appreciate and understand" the reasons those items are in the proposal due to them being used in recent crimes, however these 2 types of firearm have not.

Not throwing anything under the bus, only attempting to approach it factually and differentiate the clear difference between the two and question why they were in the same proposal. If I collected knives and was writing regarding those then I would have said that I "appreciate and understand" the reasons these items are in the proposal due to them being used in recent crimes BUT etc. etc.

I've written to my MP...

Who else?
Done, as already stated.

I'm sure most MP's won't have even heard of MARS/lever release guns (hell, there are plenty of shooters who haven't!) and bringing them to their attention may have the opposite effect to what we're intending. I know plenty of friends I've shown some of my guns to have remarked "Wow, I can't believe you're allowed to own something like XYZ"
I beg to differ.
We should take every opportunity to educate, inform & interact with our MP's, especially when knee-jerk changes in legislation are proposed.
I very much doubt Amber Rudd knows the difference between a MARS rifle & an AR15 fitted with a bump fire stock & this will at least in part be responsible for the 'consultation' so conveniently announced right after the Las Vegas atrocity.
If our legislators aren't kept informed, they're far more likely to 'go with the flow' rather than make considered & objective decisions.

Let's ensure they're informed, so at the very least they can't plead ignorance when they support a position with negative connotations for the shooting sports (& an industry worth a couple of billion a year, employing at least 74,000 people).

Gotta love these Tories.

Still voting for them? lol
.
If there's a review, it should include the removal of that deliberately emotive term "air weapon".

They are certainly NOT weapons when used as intended, or should the contents of my kitchen drawer be renamed "knife weapons" or how about the "hammer weapon" in my toolbox?

How do you know this?

I'm a BASC member, as are several friends & we certainly DO 'give a f...'.

I've seen the same argument made for not supporting the NRA in the US & it's piffle: JOIN the organisation & get involved so that your views are heard, rather than complaining that they do nothing.

What's BASC's current membership, 140,000 ish?

One Hundred and Forty Thousand.

This petition (for their "fellow" sportsmen) only got 21,000 signatures. http://petition.parliament.uk/archived/petitions/62588

That's how I know.

Me too. We're not the majority of Fudd tho.

I've been a member for five years...

I have been an NRA member for over 30 years and believe me they only hear what they want, Bisley, Bisley, Bisley! I am also a BASC member and they are just as useless.

I am a member because I feel I should in the vain hope that I feel they might do something worthwhile for gun owners but after 40 odd years of shooting their sad history shows us otherwise. All they are fit for is bending over to take a Home Office shafting on our behalf.

Just look at the state of gun ownership and legislation in the UK, that is the proof positive of the sorry state of their wilful ineffectiveness.

When the sh!te hits the fan and bans are in the offing our useless national organisations will do their usual default behaviour trying to save their own pathetic "disciplines" at the expense of everyone else and legal gun ownership in the UK will be lost because of their ineffectual self interest and lack of rectitude.

Ah but that was because the petition was for pistols, and we all know that only walting Rambo wannabes want to shoot pistols! If there was a threat to shotguns and .22's they'd all come out and show support, all 600,000 odd certificate holders would band together as brothers and sisters and bang in more than half a million GET OFF OUR GUNS letters! :flag13:

Oh wait, the government did propose that in the HACS review and less than 1500 people bothered their arses.... wallhead

Still the HACs people seemed to be impressed/overwhelmed with that pitiful amount so lets go for gold and aim for less than half of one percent of certificate holders and get 2000 replies to the consultation in! :good:
