I've shot all of the last Century's and this Century's British Service Rifles and the best by far is the L85A2, but that is only my opinion.

What I find interesting is whilst there is plenty of talk about the EM-2 there is barely ever any mention of the EM-1 that was gas piston operated and roller locked in a similar way to the MG42.
What puzzles me about the EM-1 is why they didn't get rid of the Gas piston assembly, did they know about the Gerät 06H? If they had deleted the gas piston assembly you would be left with a rifle that is simpler and cheaper to make and in effect a bullpup G3. How would that rifle handled full power 7.62 NATO cartridges?

I will have you know the Chairborne Commando's are an elite unit DW58, alongside the 1st battalion of the Queens own Walter Mittys.

On a serious note the fallacies can be interesting especially how they can develop a life of their own and then leak into the general press.
A few years back there was a news report on American TV talking about M113 "Gavin" APC. Now within tank enthusiast circles calling an M113 a "Gavin" is a source of ridicule and if you do it then much mocking will come your way.
The "Gavin" name is the life's work of one Mike "Sparky" Sparks an US army reservist who has a rather unhealthy attraction to the M113 and has decided it should be named the "Gavin" after General James M Gavin. To that end he has flooded the internet with websites, Youtube videos and much green ink spilt to the press to persuade everybody that is the vehicles name by the force of his will.
Funny really but eventually a news station making a report called the M113 a "Gavin" because that is what their internet research showed up.
There is nothing wrong with being an armchair historian, there are many train fanciers who are as such who are true experts on their favourite subject. I have much to learn as we talked about on Sunday DW58, but I do like a good history debate.
