Met up with Scott (CCA) and I am now a proud owner of .223 Tactical albeit still waiting on the castle nut to secure the AR stock. Also need a red dot mounting bracket as CCA are out of stock as is Europe looking at various websites (if anyone as a spare one please PM me). The attached photo shows the VZ against my Ruger SR22 and Lantac for comparison (yes Green is the new Black).

I decided not to wait for the trigger release as it was looking costly and I have already blown my 2014 budget.

Have got myself some Russian milsurp and will be putting my first rounds down it at Severnside in the next couple of weeks (that question again – do I need to run in with a shoot clean shoot clean regime?).

All guns need running in.

Zilberbak, that answers one of my questions- looks like butt/grip colours are black only.

Considered the 12” barrel as it looks good but thought the 16” was a better compromise for shooting out to 300m and that is what I ended up with. The stock can be one of three colours as shown on the SR22 and Lantac. I believe the hand guard/rails can also be one of three colours (but you can always spray with camo paint like the SR22 hand guard in the picture). All the add ons are FAB Defense who support the VZ quite well.

All I am missing is the red dot mounting bracket, which appears to be out of stock with the European Suppliers. Interestingly you can get VZ bits off of UK Amazon from an American company called ZFI. I have already succumbed to a FAB D folding stock. Make sure you get cheek risers because of the low stock height.

I will update once I have had some range time.

You can dye them pretty easily as well.

Hadn't thought of that but a good alternative for a permanent change. The only good thing about camo paint is that it comes off with a remover spray (presumably a solvent of some kind) I bought the green paint from UKMCPro in Portsmouth but most military kit suppliers usually have some.

Hey Ade, do you rember my spray camo job I did on my rifle, I stripped it off easy too.

Also when are you going severnside? Ledbury noisy day sunday if your interested?

From experience with my own vz.58 I wouldn't bother with the side raile red dot bracket. It lifts the red dot way to high off the rifle and it is not very comfortable.

You are better putting any red dot on the weaver/picatinny if you have the FAB defence plastic foregrip like this:

This is mine with the side rail and red dot mounted, it is not that good a solution in all honesty. I have gone off using the red dot anyway. Unless you are close up it is not much use, I am switching to a scope mounted off the forerail using some offset scope mounts.

I have a cheek riser on the FAB D GL stock that I am hoping will help align with either my Burris AR-332 or AR-536 both of which have relative short eye relief and are short enough to sit on the back dust cover and not get in the way of an ejected cartridge. If not I will do as you suggest and mount something on the front rail. The benefit of the Burris AR series is that has a reticule that has drop allowances for .223/5.56.

I noted that you recommend to run in with .223 can I ask why as I haven’t put anything through mine yet and have only picked up Russian milsurp to use?
