To disagree slightly with Chuck, I never tried Russian surplus in mine, but it like the surplus RG. I also found the 1 in 7 barrel a bit fussy with bullet weights - 60 to 64gns was ideal for mine, others have found theirs was happy with 69 SMK bullets. I don't recall anyone with a 1 in 7 barrelled Saiga having any success with lighter bullets, but I'm sure someone will say different!
Aye ME!   RG had a habit of fouling the chamber at times on loading....

I used standard Russian factory ammo from Pete Lawman...never had a problem with supply of the ammo, it worked every time.

Very nice Sandgroper!

Good idea for lengthening the butt because they do look short to me. Probably going to feel awkward if you got long arms like I have!

Anyone shot the Saiga sporter version?? Just wondering if it would be a little better at distance.

There's always one!

I didn't realise the Russian ammo was 55gn - learnt something new!

Not me. The longer barrel certainly wouldn't hurt as far as velocity and bullet drop at longer distances is concerned. They are half the price as well.

BTW If you want to handload some 55gn subsonic ammo - the 1 in 7 barrel is really good for it! :shifty:

Have to say I'm quite interested in the 'sporter' version but the extra's / accessories seem a bit pricey. Also couldn't seem to find any picatiny / weaver rail bits that can attach to the 'sporter' version. Of course I might not be looking in the right places.

Can anyone suggest some .223 rifles which would be sub £700 new or used which would be good to shoot from 300 yards up to 600 yards?

I'm looking for something a bit different, fun and cheap to feed! I currently own a TR and also a Tikka T3 super varmint both in 7.62

So far on the list but not sure on accuracy is the Saiga Sporter AK .223 which will be around £500 new as I have a scope.

Steyr AUG .223??

Anymore ideas welcome.
