ovenpaa wrote:ENS pinged me a few days ago with an idea for a method of levelling rifle 'scopes, now based on his constant mutterings about the 'scope on his F/TR rifle being out of plumb I can understand why he had been thinking about it. "IT WAS SKEW- AS SKEW AS HOMOSEXUAL PATRIOTIC BRITISH SPYMASTERS" :G

A quick scan of his idea was enough to show it would certainly work "YOU SEE GENIUS I IS " but wow it was complex "OF COURSE" however it set me thinking, how could I keep moving parts out of such a device, make it all but fool proof "WHAT YOU IMPLYING???" and easier to make "NOW YOU BEING NASTY - MY GADGET WAS UBBER COOL". Simple ideas are best "AARGH - SIMPLIFICATION IS LIKE IMPERIAL SO YESTERDAY dromnia :55: " so I opted for a simple set of wedges that slide together maintaining the upper and lower surfaces in parallel, and when I say parallel I mean within .0004 (Four tenths of a thou, AKA not a lot) To say I was pleased with such accuracy is an understatement as it was a bit of an experiment. "OK OK OK YOURS DOES WORK A LITTLE BETTER THAN MY IDEA BUT MINE HAD LOTS OF LITTLE SPRINGS AND MOVING BITTIES"

Bit of an update, I have decided to build two sizes to suit low and normal set-ups, interestingly the angles have to change to other than I expected to maintain the slip ratio and not have them just lock up in place, it has been a fun project in that respect and I seem to have made a few taper wedges along the way.

If anyone is interested I will be shipping start of next week.
