Before you let this rifle out of your possession, take lots more photos. I'd also send it to somewhere like Lantac for an independent report.

I think SGC have really screwed up with the MK6.

Edit, wondered why I was getting a lot of typo's when I wrote that, I just realised that after getting it out of the cabinet, checking it and putting it back my hands are now shaking

Crappy forging of the aluminum? If you buy a BCM or a Colt or a Novekse you know what you're getting, but who knows how these SGC guys build their stuff or where they get their materials from... :? Even if there was some overpressure or you accidentally double loaded a round or something, it's a honking great rifle, you wouldn't expect it to shear off big lugs like that.

The very first thing you should do, is let SGC have the rifle for assessment, never mind anyone else. There is no one more qualified to inspect it than Bob himself, he built the thing. If you take it else where you will almost certainly invalidate any warranty .

Bob has been manufacturing AR,s far longer than anyone else, and even though his sales service aint great, his aftersales and spares always have been.
Give the man a chance to put it right.

Roger Bill Shooting Supplies were phoning Bob yesterday, I sent them copies of the photos and a description of the damage.

I've been trying to remember exactly what happened, not easy at the moment as I'm still shaking and having trouble remembering things, took me a minute to remember Roger Bills name to start this post.

What I think happened is this, either on shot 15 or when the bolt went forwards for shot 16 the rear takedown lug failed. As I was shooting from a sitting position the forend was supported on a benchrest so the upwards pressure on the bottom of the barrel shroud kept the receiver closed, on firing the gun the rear of the receiver lifted enough to stop the bolt going back, that may explain the damage to the charge handle area and the blast of gas I got in the face. I remember seeing the charge handle was loose and the gun seperating as I put it down, I don't remember removing the mag or the bolt but I must have as I checked the gun was clear before taking it off the range.

Took me 15mins to type that, had to keep going back and remove all the typos.

Well I am sincerely glad that you are unharmed and I hope that you get over your shock. I'd get out and shoot something as soon as you are able.

I would say that SGC should be asking for the rifle back pronto so as to establish the cause of the failure for their customers benefit and their companies benefit. If it is a design and/or manufacturing flaw then the sooner a recall is instigated the better for all.

I don't really know these guns or the company but from what I've seen here alone I'm surprised they are still in business. :G
