John25, very interesting, did you buy the kit complete? If so where from. I am always looking to build as well. Two of the three AR-15's that I have are built from scratch, bought the receivers and built it the way I wanted it. One of them has full auto firing. After I get this Enfield re-barreled and put back together and finally shot, I will be looking for another project. Saying that though my wife has quite a long "honey do" list for me of things she wants done around the house, plus I have three outside decks that need painting and I plan on building a rifle range this summer. So it will probably me a night time project if anything.

From 'Olde Rifle Shoppe' I waited three years for the kit after I had paid for it.

The sword bayonet took five years!

I have just Googled it and come up with this

http://therifleshoppe.com/catalog_pages ... h_arms.htm

But it is a completely different site to the one I remember.

I'll trawl through some stuff and get back to you.

I could well be shot to pieces on this as I'm not really an "Enfield" chap and it's a good few years since I had anything to do with them but - Isn't there a cut out in the end of the barrel that MUST line up with a matching slot in the receiver to allow for the extractor claw. ie. The barrel must be tight but not tightened past the cutout or the extractor can't fit, headspace not being a problem in this instance.

I will be the first to admit that what I know about Enfields could be written on the back of a stamp so I may be thinking of something else.

1066. Yep you are correct there is a slot which makes it easier for sight alinement as well.

Of course - As a Savage shooter, all we use is a spanner to change the barrel. As far as I'm concerned they only need to be on tight enough not to fall off while you are shooting. I know some Savage shooters do them up little more than hand tight but the instructions on my barrel wrench say tighten to 30-40 lbs.

Well I just recieved an email from Robert over at Fultons, he more or less confirms what Steve Redgeway of 303 British.com said.
Regarding torque settings for breeching up barrels. Well if you ask this question to most of the Guntrade you will come up with answers varying from ‘just over hand tight’ to 200 ft lbs . The guy that does all our breeching up has a 2lb copper headed mallet and tightens the barrels using three smart 90 deg strokes. So in effect not rocket science but has been effective for 100 years. I hope this will be of use.
So now I know and I just need to crack on.
