I am rapidly becoming a fan of the 6,5-284 after Saturday shooting at 1200 with it and with under 40MOA of elevation as well. I have never shot beyond 1200 with a .308 but would very much like to push it out further, what weight bullet are you using in the .308?

I shoot TR at 1000yds occasionally. It was a lot more fun doing it with an RPA Quadlock than a Parker-Hale 1200TX!

Being fairly new to shooting at distance and even newer to reloading, I was always daunted by the distance and put off having a go for a whole season. Towards the end of last year, after much pushing from the better half, I decided it was time to 'bust the 1k cherry'-boy am I glad I did! Luckily I didnt disgrace myself and managed a fair few V's (the targets were of a fairly generous size thou)
If anyone has any hang-ups about giving it a go, dont-just go for it!

Reading this thread it seems I'm in a minority! :shakeshout:
A 1000 or greater still doesn't grab my interest.

I must admit that i like the 6.5-284 but Lee gets barely 1800 rounds out of a barrel! He is prone to stoking up his rounds so i'm sure he could get a longer barrel life if he backed his loads off a bit, but still - 1800 rounds and those Shillen barrels are bloody expensive..........
PM me your email address and i'll scan and mail you a recent review of the Savage long range hunter rifle in 6.5-284. The load work-up is quite interesting.
Many shooting the 308 swear by the 175gr bullet but my SSG69 just loves Hornady 168gr A-Max bullets, closely followed by 168gr Sierra Matchkings. It hates VLDs.

my K31 seems to be happy with the PPU 174grn load at 1000, I would love to try some GP11 in it, but the market seems dry of it at the moment, my hand loads seem to be OK (ish) hitting about 1/2 the target frame lower, but I am not pushing them hard at this stage ,just keeping the shop bought stuff for the longer range stuff

And what's so wrong with being confused for me?
Yes, my smle will shoot to 1000, but (and the more I think about this the gayer it sounds

) I want to preserve the bore, so only shoot soft loads at 200/300...
I do love shooting 900/1000 TR - basically you're lining up a 3 foot metal blow-pipe by eye, and spitting a little piece of metal accurately at a target (even when the bull is 2' wide)...and it just gets more fascinating the further the distance
Unfortunately, I only get to shoot long range TR once a year at the moment, so obviously want to do more of that; but I'd also like to get something specifically for 1000/1200 at some point in the future....

I think this calls for some kind of Full-Bore UK 1000 yard shoot, no?

Nothing at all, your fur is fabulous. Anyone would be lucky to have a pelt like that

Eyes off my pelt pal! :P
If I can make it I'd be up for a 1000 FB day - also, there was a little bit of talk last year about a 'north v south' shoot - for 1000 yrds, it'd have to be Bisley v Diggle
