"The Dromia Rule"

Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.

If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Our gallery ranges don't seem to have specific rifle rules. Just range orders, RASP and range certificate.

Ovenpaa no need to be chary about downloaded ammunition if you have the good proceedures, when we use downloaded ammunition at our clubs each load has to be chronographed at the club with the club chrono, 5 shots, and an average velocity and muzzle energy taken, If with in the range certificate that load is recorded on a shooters load sheet and signed off by the witnessing RCO. That particular load is then cleared for use on the range. Any change to that load including components and the procedure has to be re done and signed off as different load.

These are the rules that I refered to with regard to gallery rifle http://www.galleryrifle.com/Handbook/GRPHandbook.pdf

In particular it says in A2.2.2 - The muzzle velocity must not exceed 2150 fps and the muzzle energy must not exceed 1496 ft/lb. Downloaded rifle ammunition is not permitted.

I would love to shoot the timed and precision event using my 9.3x74r downloaded with cast bullets, while I can do so in informal club shoots I would not be permitted to do so in postal or formal competition regardless of what the range is passed for. I am confident that as the rifle is an ejector I would have no trouble giving the underlever guys a run for their money in fact tripping both triggers would make the double tap 3 second stage easy.

Oh I see you are talking about some sort of competition, I'm talking about gallery ranges that we shoot rifles and pistols on.

BTW that rule seems a bit limiting you might want to think about changing it for your club competition.

Informal club comps no problem but formal comps - such as at the phoenix meeting or in the postal leagues a non starter.

Why would I want to change my club? It's got nothing to do with club rules its the rules that gallery rifle competitions are normally shot under. As regards informal club comps I've shot the timed and precsion event (PP1) using a bolt action centrefire rifle to very good effect (a possible) just for fun.
