One of the reasons I lost interest many years ago in WW2 german stuff was one its popularity and two the amount of fake kit around and good fake kit at that.

What finally got me on it was a t an arms fair years ago now wher a chap was selling "genuine(?) replica nazi armourers stamps", they looked good and any one with a bit of knowledg could stamp up a suitable rifle for the unwary.

After that it was anything pre WW1, Enfields, BSA's and any other British maker for me.

But it seems even with the trusty BSA the "real German" issue still raises its head. Is no one safe from this nazi kit fashion fad. :shock: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Very true Dromia, every single part to build you very own German 'sniper' is available via the internet these days, from stamps to mounts to butt plates to safety catches. As much as I always fancied a 7,92x57 sniper if I were to get one I would never consider it original and would always have doubt in my mind as to the originality of the components. Closest I have ever got to a genuine item was holding and having a peer through Roger's WW1 G98 with offset 'scope.

Same goes for the 4(T) I am suspicious of so many now appearing and again that well know auction site is a source of everything from brackets, to swivels to 'scopes and pads to books telling you how to identify and original rifle.

Sadly a sign of the times, and as you say pre WW1 is a fairly safe bet. At least I can be fairly certain that our Krag is an all original rifle.
