DK 2011

Re: DK 2011
I have done some serious choppy seas and never up-chucked...but Bro, 35 years in RN ...dear me...I can remember him heaving his guts up sailing from The Mumbles to Ilfracombe on the Cardiff Queen. Mind you he was 10 and me 7 from memory.
Dad laughed his head off.

Re: DK 2011
Years ago a few of us went to Amsterdam for the week (stag do) and the cheapest method back then was the ferry/driving.Unfortunately it took something like 20 hours from Harwich to the Hook which for someone like me who is absolutely terrified of water (i almost drowned as a teenager) and also gets violently seasick isnt an ideal combo. Was real calm sailing out there, but on return i had visions of the Poseidon adventure cos it was very very rough.christel wrote:Nope, I could never have been a seafaring Viking. I am mostly ok about it and as long as I have had food to eat I do not get sea sick. However even programmes about the sea, marine life and so on just does not do it for me. I have a slight fear of it all.
Especially whales, I can get totally panicky about whales. How totally irrational.
ps.I too get a bit panicky around whales-them damn pesky taffys are like a plague.
Re: DK 2011
Glad to hear things are going well over there
- I hope the weather improves next week...it looks like W/SW for a while, so maybe we (Britain) can deflect some of it for you....
Is your camera broken? :P

It's not that irrational...many people aren't sure about Wales.....christel wrote:Especially whales, I can get totally panicky about whales. How totally irrational.

They need to visit Cardiff Bay!
It's quality and I've been in all the best hotels around UK on Bankers expenses.

It's not that I didn't enjoy the picture of yourself gazing out to sea (probably wondering if there are any killer whales out there  ) - but you guys are on a 'shooting holiday' and we havn't seen a picture of a range yet....christel wrote:CheekyDougan wrote: Is your camera broken? :P
....Also, I'll be quite dissapointed if we don't get a picture of a Bald Eagle...

Re: DK 2011
Camera is right in front of me ready to go for this morning's shoot.
Weather looks ok at the moment, eg it is not raining, they are forecasting sunny intervals and 16 degrees.
We are going to start the day at 600m.
I had my 22C on 200m indoors electronic target yesterday and it was just so nice to lie there and shoot, taking my time, concentrating on my breathing, not have to think about incorrect marking, wait for the frame to come up, weather, other shooters (only Ovenpaa and I there)
The 22C is ever so accurate though and today at 600m she will be more in her element. Looking forward to that!

Re: DK 2011
The weather held out today so it was straight out to 600m, this time with some Brazilian 180 grain things in my AI, they seemed to work quite nicely and the Huns Head took a kicking again but I do feel the writing is on the wall for the barrel of my AI. It has done a massive amount of work now and really should have been replaced a couple of thousand shots ago.
Christel shot a nice 5 shot group at two and a bit inches which is around .35MOA which I guess was OK given the mirage and slightly odd wind.
We also met up with some German chaps I have met in the past, all shooting Kar98 Snipers (Of course!) So I shot a side rail Zeiss scoped one from 1945 which promptly nicked me on the bridge of the nose but gave some very nice results with a first five shot group of 87mm at 300m. The owner told me the rifle must love me as it was performing so well
Apparently the owner of this rifle is a very well respected hunting rifle builder in Germany and his big game Mausers go for many thousands of Euros.
I followed with another Kar98 sniper which I noticed was Orbendorf and covered in Waffenamts and had an odd hinged sling mount at the rear, accuracy was a bit off for me at around 110mm for five shots albeit all with a slight left however I certainly was not going to try and adjust his 'scope.
Language was a bit of an issue but I managed to convey my thanks and delight at shooting some superb specimens of this rifle. They were shooting military issue ammunition with a small front rest and I was impressed with the accuracy. Another thing struck me as I walked away. I have never seen such fine kar98's in the UK, I guess they got all the good ones!
