Tracer is banned for civvies at Altcar Ranges due to a backstop fire. Rumour has it that it wasn't even a civvie club that was shooting it, but a military unit.

I suspect that's the reason for scousenell's comment.

Tracer can cause fires, we try to limit it by only shooting when it has been wet and with range control permission. Fire control/fighting procedures have been agreed previously.

However, even then fires can be started accidentally. We have set the range on fire in the past and someone will do so again in the future.
