The Rossi is cheap, there’s loads of info around about tuning and modifying it and it comes in a choice of barrel lengths and finishes. Widely available too.

It’s not for everyone, but the club Rossi I’ve shot a fair few times has run flawlessly and accurately.

I run 3 Ubertis - a Henry in .44/40: an 1866 carbine in .38/40 and an 1873 short rifle in .32/20. Great bits of kit. I also have a Chiappa '92 short rifle in .44/40 - slick as a whistle out of the box.

I have 2 Marlins in .44 and .357 and have to say they are fantastic, as long as you look after them they will give you a lifetime of service...just take a look down the line at one of the Gallery Rifle shoots

Rossi are a good starter, but the Henry’s are the best in my opinion.

I have a Marlin .38/.357 bought new just over five years ago and I cannot fault it, I have a few upgrade from here http://www.rimfiremagic.co.uk/marlin_rifles.html such as William's Aperture sights, one piece stainless steel firing pin and a reduced power hammer spring; I would like to add a big loop leaver in the future.

best thing you can do before you shoot it is sit with it for a night, and just constantly rack it open and closed. this should lighten the action a bit and bed everything in, making it all a bit smoother

We have a club Rossi in stainless. In the last three years it’s done close to 25000 rounds and not one breakage. It really is smother than any 92 action I’ve come across.
