Re: just had to
Maybe just a tad fussy about the ammo it's fed. Is it a two groove barrel?ballkeeper wrote:only that ppu 303 ammo ,

I seem to recall reading somewhere that they don't like boat tail ammunition and oft keyholed targets.

Re: just had to
Try chucking some flat based bullets through it. I only ever reload for my (five groove) rifle so I'm not familiar with factory ammunition and choices available out there regarding bullet bases. Someone on here ought to know though. Perhaps someone near you could run up a few reloads with flat based bullets and see if matters improve. HAS to be better than going through all the bother of returning the rifle (which otherwise looks like a lovely example) and variation procedure.ballkeeper wrote:yup its a 2 band,
What's the crown looking like?

Re: just had to
No better factory .303 ammo available in the UK, only other factory ammo generally available here is the Seller & Bellot which I believe is also boat tail.ballkeeper wrote:yup its a 2 band,

If it is BT bullets, then re-loading will be only option.
As other suggest if you know someone who can load up some to try than that would be best to prove to Kranks.

Re: just had to
I would slug the barrel and check the crown.
Also measure the bullet diameters just incase it is a bad batch.
Tumbling like that with jacketed ammunition is usually the product of a goosed barrel especially at the muzzle, there is nothing special about two groove barrels they shoot very well.
Flat based bullets are worth a try, Metford rifling likes flat based, but it looks like there is something more fundamentally serious than bullet shape, all my two grooves have handled all the ammunition I have put down them with aplomb, flat based or boat tailed.

Just checked......and I was talking bollox....the Sellier & Bellot 180gr .303 ammo uses a FMJ flat base bullet, (a la the MkVII mil) so get a box and try that, but, I suspect, as Dromia says, the muzzle is FUBAR'd.GeeRam wrote:No better factory .303 ammo available in the UK, only other factory ammo generally available here is the Seller & Bellot which I believe is also boat tail.ballkeeper wrote:yup its a 2 band,

"Don't seem much depth"
Enfield rifling, even two groove, is deep relatively speaking and usually visually strong.
Seems like the unissued bit may not be true.
I am sure that Krankies will give you your money back especially as you have only shot factory in it.

Re: just had to
Worth a try. If matters don't improve ballkeeper will at least be in a position to produce two targets to demonstrate that the rifle isn't shooting straight regardless of bullet type and ammunition manufacturer.GeeRam wrote:
