Ah, I was seeing it wrong.
On the top picture it looks like (at least to me) that it is sitting further back.
It is pretty much where it should be at the front.
Duh :)

There was a person shooting the long range comp with barrel tuners in place. His appeared to be rubber and was on two different parts of his barrel. It looked like something a dalek would wave at you!
I made the mistake of not chatting to him as I heard him having problems finding the frame at one distance, and wrongly surmised that he was possibly not worth talking too. But as I said I was wrong and I understand it was just a bad 5 minutes and he went on to do OK.
I still believe that if they worked they would be widely used, I am happy to concentrate on other parts of my game for the time being,
