I was chatting to one of our good F class shooters the other day. When he's cleaning his rifles he uses a minimum of seventy (70!!) patches for each gun... When we bore scoped one recently it looked brand new inside.

Thanks everyone and yes Mark we did meet at Bisley on Friday. I hope you were able to resolve your car issues!
Lots of useful stuff to follow up on here, thanks everyone. I'm going to clean, fully inspect and retorque all the screws/mounting bolts on the rifle. Then I'll go down to the range again and run some ammo tests of 155, 168 and 175gr round to see what performs best. I'll also take my cleaning rod and clean the gun between the different bullets.
I'll also shoot with another gun just to make sure it's not me
Thanks.

I'm down at Bisley quite regularly and will be practicing there mid-week a couple of times at least before the end of the month. Happy to have a look at your setup if we can find a time convenient to us both.
I've got a bore scope and a selection of .308 loads we can try in order to narrow down the problem. PM me if you want to give it a go.

reading your first post, makes me wonder, did you know who the gun came from? Could it be that they were having issues too and decided to move it on?

I have an AI-AT in .260 and it's stunning, but it took some load development. In .308 I've had stellar results with an AI-AW and just casual shooting (not really trying) with this rifle produced this 3 shot group @ 100 yards. I wish I'd tried harder...
I suspect it's the GGG ammo, I've never had any success with it. For .308 treat yourself to a few boxes of Hornady TAP in .308, Riflecraft normally have it. I've never found better match ammo in .308.
What mag scope do you have?

The gun is fitted with an IOR Crusader 5.8-40x56 scope. I don't tend to run it at much above 20x

I prefer running high mag scopes, yes you can see your breathing, but this means you can also see the effects of controlling your breathing. When the moment's right, you can take the shot. I find I'm far more accurate with higher mag scopes and as you're running X20, I think you can rule that out.
I still think it's your ammo. I swear by Hornady TAP, it's ruddy excellent in nearly every rifle I've tried it in.

This is the best of 3 groups ( the first actually) last time out. It measures almost 2 1/2" top to bottom

As long as you're maintaining a consistent cheek weld, then it's the ammo IMHO.
