the 12/24 rule in NI is per the 2004 order used to say when a centrefire semi auto pistol becomes a centrefire semi rifle . I heard talk of that being used to allow AR pistols like you see in the US provided it met those dimensions happening. What has happened there if you know anything?

i shot semi auto L1A1'S in the early 80's, now i finally have the slot to hold a (castrated) version of that rifle id love it to be as close to what i know a possible

bsa/enfield - i obvs dont mind, we are running out of chances to legally own one so while i still have the chance if anyone has one for sale at an affordable price please shout out

Whats affordable?

The bench mark has been set at £3000 so I do not think many owners are going to sell theirs for less. Unless they have not seen the gunstar ad that is. IMO the asking price will only go up not down.

People will only pay fair value for rifles and at £3,000, I don't think that L1A1 hits the mark. Perhaps let it sit until late Jan and knock him down by £500. If he refuses and he still has it for sale in late Feb, knock him down by £750. :)

At the end of the day you have to weigh up how much it costs v what else you can get for the same money. On top of that, you have to weigh up how accurate it is. I should probably create a rifle accuracy v cost supply/demand chart at some point!

It also depends on how much, and why, you want it.

a. they're not particularly accurate compared with other, much cheaper, rifles.
b. they are a pig to shoot... When I bought one I looked back through rose coloured glasses 20+ years to when I fired a semi auto version.... the recoil of the straight-pull came as a bit of a shock...

I'll admit that I bought one to remember the "good old days" when I was in the Reserve Forces and the L1A1 was my issue rifle... I loved going down the range and was confident if the SHTF, together we would drop Johnny Foreigner at any reasonable distance.

However, modern reality was that (discounting the fact it had "issues" and ended up with the makers stigma) it wasn't that nice to shoot, and I decided that my .308 slot would be better filled by something else.

Not trying to put you off..... just make sure you really want it enough to pay that sort of money...

I have a FAL and I think the open site picture is one of the best I've seen. I love shooting it, the balance of the rifle, the weight and the length, my only slight grievance is the left handed charging handle. Who thought that was a good idea? :)

I can remember shooting one as an Army Cadet.

A feeling of having a go with the 'real deal'...

Obviously, normally we'd be using Lee Enfield rifles

But apart from nostalgia, things have surely moved on..?

It works when you have a semi auto version... you only cocked it once before raising it to the aim then as long as you counted your rounds, you didn't have to cock it again.
But yes, on a straight-pull left cocking is a PITA.
This was one thing i liked on the ARB L1A1, was the right cocking lever. Most people disliked it because it wasn't original, and I'll agree it did look a bit weird, but it made sense when shooting it.
