So 180 days seems a bit optimistic to me.
my renewal was due feb this year with TVP, I returned the paperwork 5 months prior to that and I got my FAC about 3 days after the old one ran out, I had to carry out a campaign of email messages and phone calls from pretty much the time I sent my paperwork in, I involved BASC and kept up the pressure and in the end got my FAC on time, undoubtedly at the expense of some poor sod who hadn't been as pro-active!
my advice is write to the Firearms manager, the PCC,the Chief Constable and your local MP, all these people are stakeholders and have the ability to move things on, as long as we sit back and make no noise they will continue to screw us over!
The nature of my work means it's not wise for me to annoy either Mr Stansfield or Mr Habgood (who is not, I am lead to believe, that keen on the private ownership of firearms), but John Redwood is fair game. Anyone know if he's pro or anti shooting?
I'm sorry? are you suggesting a public servant would victimise a member of the public because they highlighted short comings in their organisation? their job is to take on board comments from members of the public and to offer a service fit for purpose , as far as the CC's views I doubt you can change them,so nothing to lose there. of course your personal circumstances may influence your decision.

An update ... over 2 months since it went in and this week he has received an acknowledgement letter telling him that his application "is being dealt with" and no forecast date for a visit.
He though I was joking when I suggest 6 months or more would be a reasonable expectation.

Four months for a variation in TVP. With hindsight I wish I'd thought about putting in for more guns but they were already getting a bit twitchy on the potential total. How I miss the eighties - apart from the music.

Within a few months our club will be loosing it's youngest member (still under 40 - just!!) and he's the only member that comes under TVP, and he's moving his family up to Norfolk/Suffolk borders, so he's looking forward to be out of the clutches of TVP (G4S) as it would seem either forces system up there will be a massive improvement on TVP's dreadful performance.

Does anyone know if G4S has been rolled out nationally to run firearms admin?

I had a variation turned round in 7 weeks last summer but it has gone to pot since then. Here's my timeline for renewal:
June 2016 Forms delivered to FLD
August 2016 S7 permit issued
November 2016 FAC expired
Then ...
16 January 2017 Email to FLD requesting some action
17 January 2017 FEO phoned for interview (all OK)
18 January 2017 FEO returned forms to FLD
Still waiting ...
