This issue flip-flopped a few times this year as to what details had to be recorded, however the latest information from BSSC is that the club needs to record all the info mentioned by Sim G.
My indoor club runs the same method as Andy632's. The only flaw in the system is when you acquire a new firearm between membership renewals the new firearm doesn't have a number so I'm not entirely sure what you're supposed to do. Should be have a new rifle by next week i'll be using there so i'll ask if it can just be added to my records I suppose.
Other clubs I visit, as a guest, require you to write out your serial number(s) when you sign in, which can get a bit tedious, especially if you're their with a few guns. As such I've geekily printed off a ton of small sticky labels with the serial number of each gun on which cuts down the hassle. The only difficulty is peeling the bloody things as they're really small!

As per Andy at my club. Just had HO visit and AFAIK nothing changed in this respect.
Re addition of newly acquired FA. The club sec has an A5 form that you fill in and give back to him.
He then updates your details form in the range register. New FA then has its own number.

Each of the members of my club are issued with an A6 log book which they keep.
Inside the front cover is a numbered list of the firearms they own. At each visit they record the date, place and number of each firearm used and get this entry countersigned by a committee member.
So if they are shooting on a different range or with a different club, or if they go hunting etc, a record is still made. The only change we need to do following the new guidance is to add the serial number to the numbered list of firearms.
It keeps the paperwork to a minimum and the responsibility squarely on each member to keep their records up-to-date. Come renewal time, the Club Sec just has to audit each members log book to confirm that their firearms are being used regularly.

In regards to Home Office approval, the onus is actually placed squarely on the club and not the member, to keep an attendance register that reflects the information required...

Absolutely, BUT the member has to cooperate with the club.
Our club secretary or chairman is not there every club day to get the details from the member for every visit.
Name not in Attendance register =
no show as far as Club reporting to Plod!

Apparently they want to clamp down on people with multiple rifles in the same calibre who only shoot one of them.

But it's not
Extra nonsense, these criteria have been in existence for years. Just being enforced a little more now.

But it's nothing to do with the club how often members use their guns. It's the police's concern. They use the club as impartial intermediearies really. But if i never shoot one particular rifle at one Club it is not their job to inform the police of this
They need to inform the police if they haven't seen you all year but again if you don't show up for 3 months it's not for them to call the police

not exactly , you are supposed to list the calibres you use on a range day , fine , been doing that for years , the serial number thing is new and in my opinion not required , the police have that info already
just another way to make shooters lives more difficult with zero improvement to public safety if you ask me
