I recently asked Durham to increase my limits on ammo while getting a condition on my FAC. They refused and cited the fact that I had made no regular purchases of ammunition over the years so did not show a need.
I am a hand loader and other than .22lr (which I am about to start loading -for fun) I have never bought ANY ammunition bar 1, 50 round box of .44mag, at least in last decade.
I was just wanting ,NOT to be getting myself over the limit if I had a good reloading run - Oh how they can make criminals of us by just imposing these arbitrary numbers on ammo that have no meaning or rationale behind them !!
I have not had time to discuss it with them yet but will.
I have always recorded every round I have made (like Dark skies) since my 38S&W days with a lee loader and mallet on my old tech drawing board in my bedroom 1978, but only for my own development and safety records.
I would urge everyone NOT to start keeping or supplying FEOs with lists of bullets, cases, powder or primers etc, start doing that and before long the provisional ACPO will be DEMANDING it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of the hoops we jump through are sodding ridiculous as it is, don't give these people more of a hard on by gifting them more crap.
As for helping out with red tape....a little naive in my opinion really, the cost and amount of time any application process takes is nothing to do with the cost or work involved, and 100% to do with how much the politicians and senior coppers want to mess you about for being the anti-social, society threatening scum bag you obviously are as an FAC holder!

Gazoo, I will be interested to hear how you get on loading for 22LR, have you found a UK source of primed brass? I read a good article on it a while ago although the final results offered no advantages over factory for the person who wrote the article it sounded very interesting.

No advantages, just want to do it cos it can be done!Come the zombie/muslim Apocalypse when the govenment has banned all ammo from the hands of those people they dont trust (thats us BTW), then it might be handy.
You can buy the crimp multi tool with the .22 bullet mold built in. Priming used brass is interestingly easy from what I've seen. Involves a paper clip and some acetone (off the top of my head), of course you have to position the loaded round so that the striker/hammer does not fall on previous spot!

The main problem with reloading fired rimfires is that the primer rim is weakened and liable to fracture and cause gas escape. Besides the potential for injury it also leads to wide velocity variations and the consequential loss in accuracy.

There are surprisingly quiet a few . 22rf bullet moulds available as there seems to be an few people around who rebullet ammunition for greater accuracy and wider bullet choice.

Conversly....

On my renewal I sent them a bunch of my own range records, and the NRA downloads, along with my ammo used record.

Result, phone call, "We are happy with you, we see no cause for concern so we wont be doing a visit, crack on and thanks".

I keep reloading logs because seperated cases and other issues can more easilly be explained or investigated (and then avoided) if you can see what you did to cause it to start with. It also is a more tangible proof that you are reloading. OK, I hear the usual "But I could make anything up" and that is correct, but FEOs are often exe coppers and are usually on the ball enough if the suspect anything. Records can actually make your life easier.

I keep rounds fired records not only for the FEO but also for looking at barrel wear etc.
