Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
Are they caliber specific or are they universal. Do you have to buy one for each type of bullet.

Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
I'm pretty sure that it is not caliber specific as I am sure I have used the same pointer for 30 cal that David uses on his 6.5 but I stand to be corrected
Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
As I understand it, the benefits of pointing are seen at long distance. But which makes/models of bullet benefit most from pointing?
Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
The sleeves are calibre specific and the insert that forms the point is fairly generic for bullets up to 155 grain for 30 cal and 180 grain for 7mm. I have built inserts for heavier however I no longer do so. My experience suggests pointed bullets give around one MOA on elevation and generally tighten groups up.
Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
I made my own pointing die for 308 , basically sleeve and insert for an old lee 303 seating die. I also found around 1 moa less elevation for pointed rounds over standard, and more consistent, as meplets on the scenars could vary quite widely.
Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
I would be very interested in a bullet pointing system for the price you indicate. However, I now shoot mostly 168 and 175 Sierras in 30 cal; would you be able to accommodate these?Ovenpaa wrote:The sleeves are calibre specific and the insert that forms the point is fairly generic for bullets up to 155 grain for 30 cal and 180 grain for 7mm. Re: A cheap bullet pointing system
Colin, the 168 and 175 SMK's are quite blunt to start off with so are not ideal for pointing however if you would like to send me a couple of each I can check and see how well the point up.
