Wow!
I thought it was common knowledge that you absolutely can NOT transport loaded magazines to and from the range... nor can you store loaded magazines in your ammo safe. You can only legally load up your magazines once at the shooting range or upon arrival at the land you shoot over.

I'd appreciate it if you could link to the relevant piece of legislation that informs this statement.

I was just on the phone with my Dad so I asked him while I had the chance.... I asked him were he got the information from?
He told me that it was written one of the airgun magazines, Airgun World at least 16 years ago (he stopped going "down the fields" in 2000 when my mum died) but it could be even 20 years ago. He specifically recalls reading the article as at the time he used Theoben Rapid 7 or 12 airguns to hunt with and he took note of the fact that he could not legally load those air rifle mags at home and transport them to down to the land he shot over.
He clarified that you could legally store a loaded mag in your ammo safe, but you can't transport it loaded. That is useful to know if you have a stiff new mag that you want to leave loaded in the safe for a while to break the spring in a bit.
I will be at the gun club tonight so I will ask other people regarding the subject and report back in the morning.... but I fully expect that the regulars will all say that you can't transport loaded mags.

This is correct, as I stated earlier you can't travel with loaded airgun mags, rimfire & centre fire it's ok.

You're talking specifically about airgun magazines. The OP is almost certainly describing either rimfire, or more likely - centrefire magazines.

Ok, here you go... found this:
Carrying rearms in a public place (section 19 of the 1968 Act)
22.15 Section 19 of the 1968 Act makes it an offence to have in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse (the proof of which lies on the accused) a loaded shotgun, an air weapon (whether loaded or not), any other firearm (whether loaded or not) together with ammunition suitable for use in that firearm, or an imitation firearm.
22.16 Section 57(6) of the 1968 Act includes a definition of “loaded” in relation to shotguns
and air weapons. An air weapon is to be treated as loaded if there is ammunition in the chamber or barrel or in any magazine or other device which is in such a position that the ammunition can be fed into the chamber or barrel by the manual or automatic operation of some part of the gun or weapon.

Now if this applies to the humble 12ft lbs Air rifle, then would any sane person really want to push their luck, arguing the toss, if stopped by the police with loaded Rimfire or Centerfire Magazines? I sure as hell wouldn't.
